Salary Range: $64,333.22 – $87,300.98 annually

Position Summary:

The Community Development Coordinator (CDC) strengthens the mission and visibility of L'Arche Ottawa by leading and coordinating all aspects of fundraising, development, marketing, and communications.

This role focuses on growing organizational capacity through donor stewardship, grant writing, event coordination, public relations, and creative storytelling — including managing social media and communications materials that reflect the heart of L'Arche's community life.

Working closely with the Executive Director, Leadership Team, and community members, the CDC builds and sustains relationships with donors, partners, and the wider public. The CDC will chair the Fundraising Committee, attend Coordinators' Meetings, and participate in the Leadership Team as requested.

This is a hybrid role, requiring regular in-person time at the office and within community settings, particularly during the probationary period and around major events.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising and Development

  • Communicate the mission, vision, and values of L'Arche Ottawa to donors, supporters, and the wider community.
  • Research, develop, and implement fundraising and development strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Manage the donor database to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with CRA guidelines.
  • Prepare and issue donation receipts and acknowledgment letters.
  • Build and steward relationships with donors through meaningful engagement and personalized communication.
  • Identify, write, and manage grant applications, ensuring timely submissions and reporting.
  • Develop and oversee mail-out campaigns and monthly donor programs to strengthen ongoing support and donor retention.
  • Plan, coordinate, and host major fundraising events (e.g., Tamarack Race Weekend, annual appeals, special campaigns).
  • Collaborate with the Finance Team to ensure accurate tracking of revenues and donor recognition.
  • Engage volunteers and community ambassadors in fundraising and outreach initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with corporate and community partners, identifying sponsorship and collaboration opportunities.
  • Chair and lead the Fundraising Committee, fostering creativity, accountability, and collaboration.
  • Track, analyze, and report on fundraising performance to evaluate progress and inform future strategy.

Marketing and Communications

  • Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy that enhances awareness and engagement with L'Arche Ottawa.
  • Manage and grow L'Arche Ottawa's social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to tell stories of community life and impact.
  • Create and distribute engaging content, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Develop a content calendar that integrates fundraising, storytelling, and communication goals throughout the year.
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment with L'Arche's mission and visual identity.
  • Collaborate closely with House Leaders, the Community Life Coordinator, and the Day Program Leader to capture photos, stories, and moments that reflect the spirit and daily life of the community.
  • Uphold ethical storytelling practices, ensuring consent and dignity for all photos and personal stories shared publicly.
  • Support storytelling initiatives that highlight the gifts and contributions of all members of the community.
  • Work with internal teams to promote events, community life, and partnership initiatives.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Serve as Chair of the Fundraising Committee, coordinating efforts to achieve fundraising and communications goals.
  • Attend Coordinators' Meetings and contribute to organizational planning and collaboration.
  • Participate in the Leadership Team as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure consistent messaging and shared organizational vision.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven community culture.
  • Perform related administrative and coordination tasks as required.

Qualifications

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is mandatory.
  • Degree or diploma preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or nonprofit management.
  • Proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and grant writing.
  • Experience managing mail-out campaigns, monthly donor programs, social media, and marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both official languages.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with donor management software.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative, flexible, and self-motivated, with a strong sense of initiative and accountability.
  • Understanding of and alignment with the mission and values of L'Arche.
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle required due to the hybrid nature of the role.
