Closing Date: Open Until FilledJOB SUMMARYThe communications coordinator supports Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s mandate by delivering day-to-day communications activities, content development, and event support.This is a dynamic role that supports communications product development, event planning & delivery, as well as special projects. The coordinator may be assigned other supporting tasks, such as, maintaining distribution lists and lists of key contacts; developing and scheduling social media posts; supporting event planning; and supporting publication developing including translation coordination and photo research; artist engagement and coordination of Inuit art holdings; conceptualizing, ordering and tracking promotional items; and other duties as required.This role supports the communications team to deliver on corporate communications needs in alignment with ITK’s vision and the direction of the Board.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESSupport the development of communications products by coordinating contributors; assisting with infographics, photography, captions, and credits; managing translation coordination; and supporting distribution across channels.Create and post social media and web content that aligns with organizational priorities, values, and key messages.Support meeting and event planning and coordination, including scheduling, logistics, materials preparation, and follow‑up.Maintain calendars, contact lists, and distribution lists to support effective communications planning and stakeholder engagement.Order, track, and manage promotional materials and communications tools, ensuring accuracy, availability, and brand alignment.Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the communications function and organizational priorities.KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPSThis role works closely with a range of internal and external partners to support effective, respectful, and coordinated communications.INTERNALCommunications teamCorporate Services and Executive teams (as required)File leads and subject‑matter expertsCross‑functional project teamsEXTERNALInuit regional organizations and partnersFederal, provincial, and territorial government contactsCreative and communications vendors (e.g., designers, translators, photographers)Advertising and media partnersExternal contractors supporting communications initiativesQUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLSFamiliarity with Inuit regions, history, and governance, or a strong interest and willingness to learn in a respectful way.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and openness to building skills with guidance.Experience in writing and content creation, with the ability to draft clear, simple communications.Basic photography skills or an interest in learning visual content creation.Flexible and adaptable, able to adjust to changing priorities in a supportive, fast‑paced environment.Friendly, professional, and approachable, contributing to a positive team culture.Must have excellent oral and written communication skills (primarily in English; Inuktitut and/or French an asset);Clear communicator, comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification when needed.EXPERIENCETwo (2) years or more working with an Inuit or Indigenous organizationTwo (2) years or more working in a political or advocacy organizationEDUCATIONDegree in Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Indigenous Studies, Public Affairs or similar, or:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance is evident.OTHER INFORMATIONMajority of the successful candidate’s time is spent in a sitting position with frequent opportunity to move about.The successful candidate works in a generally comfortable work environment with limited risk of accident or physical discomfort.Work is complex, often managing several items concurrently.Recurring exposure to dealing with deadline driven issues can increase workplace stress.Travel may be required.Must be hardworking and committed to ITK’s mandate.Requires sensitivity and awareness to Inuit culture.BENEFITSConditional to ITK’s Human Resources Policies, you may be eligible for:100% employer‑paid group insurance upon hireEmployer RRSP contributionsAnnual training allowanceExcellent health and wellness allowanceRelocation allowanceVacation – starting at 3 weeks/yearPaid Christmas break (usually between Xmas and New Year)Candidates with exceptional skills or experience may be considered for compensation above the posted range.*Applicants who are a Beneficiary under a Land Claims Agreement will be given priority hiring.
