Coordinator, Community Development and Student

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Reporting to and under the direction of the Assistant Director, Residence Life Services, the Coordinator, Residence Community Development and Student Engagement is responsible to develop, coordinate and continuously evaluate all residence wide community development initiatives, activities and events, which promote student development, personal development and academic success. The incumbent is also responsible for the implementation of all residence orientation events, including liaising with the Student Experience Office with regards to campus wide orientation events. The Coordinator, Residence Community Development and Student Engagement plays a significant role in the development, implementation and supervision of academic and student support programs within the residence community. The Coordinator, Residence Community Development and Student Engagement supervises the Residence Community Development Team.
**Qualifications**:
**The incumbent must possess the following qualifications**:
- Good understanding of the educational and student developmental functions of a College or University Residence system and a well-developed knowledge of student affairs and relevant issues such as mental health, behavioural issues, alcohol and drugs.
- Sound understanding of the philosophy and operations of a residence community within a University setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of the needs of students who live in an on-campus residence community comprised largely of young adult, undergraduate students.
- Experience working in a university or college is recommended to performing the functions of the position.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication (written, oral and presentation) skills and a good working knowledge of group dynamics.
- Experience with supervision, mediation, leadership, team management/development and conflict management skills.
- Strong research, program planning, event management, presentation, training and evaluation skills.
- Administrative office experience with the ability to multi-task with a demanding workload and to work creatively and independently employing good organizational skills.
- Significant competence in the use of a computer, including at least intermediate ability with database, Microsoft Word, Access, Word Press, desktop publishing, Internet administration and Banner.
- Up-to-date with technological change.
- Due to the nature of the community, sensitivity to gender, culture and diversity as key social issues within the residence community, this knowledge is essential in developing programs and training workshops.
- Exercise good judgment in setting priorities and balancing deadlines.
- High energy and the proven ability to motivate others.
**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through the completion of**:
- Four-year university bachelor’s degree, in related areas such as Psychology, Education, Student Affairs, or equivalent.
- Four years of recent University or college residence professional work experience in a position with progressive administrative responsibilities
- Includes at least two years of supervisory experience and two years of experience working in a community environment.
