Are you passionate about supporting youth in a safe, healthy, and empowering environment? Join the Forum for Young Canadians as a Health Monitor and play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of participants while they engage in an immersive, hands-on civic learning experience in Ottawa.
The , organized and run by the , is dedicated to educating, equipping, and inspiring young Canadians to engage meaningfully in civic life. Over three weeks in February and March 2026, the Forum will host its National Summit in Ottawa, welcoming over 300 students over three weeks students aged 15-18 per week) for an immersive, hands-on experience like no other.
The at Toronto Metropolitan University is working with the Rideau Hall Foundation to support the safety, health, and well-being of all program participants.
Job Role
The Health Monitor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the program. This position is responsible for managing and dispensing medications, monitoring participant health, and responding to any medical or safety concerns. The Health Monitor works closely with the program leadership team to maintain a safe, organized, and supportive environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, organize, and securely store all participant medications during check-in
- Dispense medications throughout the program week in accordance with provided instructions
- Return medications to participants at check-out and maintain accurate records
- Monitor participants' health and well-being throughout the day, noting any signs of illness, injury, or unusual symptoms
- Act as the first responder in the event of any health, safety, or emergency situations
- Maintain confidentiality and follow all health and safety protocols
- Communicate with program leadership and external medical services as needed
Qualifications:
- Minimum age: 24 years.
- Valid police record check, interview, and reference checks are required
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification
- Experience supporting the health, safety, and well-being of children or youth in camp, school, or program settings
- Familiarity with administering medications and following detailed health instructions
- Strong observational skills and ability to notice changes in participant health or behavior
- Ability to respond calmly, quickly, and effectively in emergency situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with participants and program staff
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain accurate records
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling confidential information
- Bilingual English/French (preferred but not essential).
Compensation:
$1,750 per week, amount to $5,250 total for the three weeks
- Total commitment of 129 hours over three weeks (43 hours per week), plus 8 hours of mandatory training
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided during scheduled shifts
When You'll Need To Be Available:
We are seeking Morning Monitors who can commit to the training day and to all three sessions:
Training Day: Saturday, February 7 (time tbd)
Session 1: Sunday, February 8 - Friday, February 13, 2026
Session 2: Sunday, March 8 - Friday, March 13, 2026
Session 3: Sunday, March 22 - Friday, March 27, 2026
Training:
- 3 hours for online safeguarding training prior to Forum
- 5 hours of in person training on Saturday, February 7th
Hours:
43 hours per week. Logistics Assistant responsibilities start each week on Sunday at 12:00 PM and end on Friday at 3:00 PM. Shifts are primarily daytime and may vary slightly based on program needs or special events.
Sunday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Monday–Thursday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Friday: 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM
