Assistant Controller
to support financial accuracy and operational excellence as the organization continues to scale.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of a retail and inventory-driven business. You will assist the Controller in managing all accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing insights that aid strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate brings experience in retail, fashion, apparel, or consumer goods, with strong knowledge of inventory accounting and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with operations and merchandising teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and COGS reporting.
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls; help implement best practices for compliance and efficiency.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and tax filings.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and support financial system improvements or implementations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation (or equivalent) required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in fashion, retail, or consumer goods.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and inventory accounting.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., AX Dynamics).
  • Asset-based lending experience is an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills; strong financial analysis capabilities.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
