The Family Justice Services Branch (FJSB), within the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General provides services to parents who need help in dealing with the difficulties of family breakdown, separation, and divorce in the healthiest way possible. The branch also collects child support. Services are provided by court direction, legislation mandate, or voluntary participation.
The Director of MEO leads a multidisciplinary team to bring neutrality, objectivity, and expertise to help families navigate the complexities of separation and divorce. Reporting to the Executive Director of Family Justice Services, they are part of a dynamic team dedicated to enhancing services and driving key leadership and management initiatives. The strategic vision and operational expertise this position brings will ensure MEO programs remain impactful and client focused.
The Opportunity
The Family Justice Services Branch is seeking a strategic, values-driven leader to serve as the permanent Director of the Maintenance Enforcement Office (MEO), where they will lead transformative programs that directly impact the lives of families across this province.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will:
- Develop and foster collaborative relationships, promoting team cohesion, building and sustaining a high-trust team environment.
- Provide leadership in policy development, legislative review, program enhancements, and service innovations to ensure alignment with evolving legal frameworks; increasing service delivery effectiveness that enhances revenue collection, directly impacting families.
- Lead strategy implementation by supporting the development, direction and execution of strategic and operational planning of the Maintenance Enforcement programs.
- Oversee program and service delivery, including risk, compliance and fiscal forecasting for the MEO
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and respect.
- Facilitate collaboration by creating and maintaining effective and valuable work relationships, strengthening connections between various programs and initiatives for organizational efficiency.
- Represent the Branch and Ministry in federal–provincial agreements, inter-provincial strategies, and funding negotiations with senior executives and external partners.
- Maintain the ability to resolve conflicts and de-escalate difficult situations through empathy and the implementation of proactive strategies for a safer work environment.

Knowledge and Experience
Typically, the successful candidate would possess the knowledge, skills and experience required for this position, or a combination there of, with:
- Inclusive leadership and team engagement strategies, including a strong commitment to excellence with a proven ability to lead through change with empathy and transparency.
- Working within complex environments, gaining buy-in through respectful and fair leadership.
- Strategic communication including writing executive level documents, such as briefing materials for executive government.
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and risk management practices.
- Experience in performance management and operational excellence.
- A relevant undergraduate degree in social science, human resources, public administration, law; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Enforcement legislation, policy development, and/or family law experience.
