Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator

Are you an experienced Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator that has a heart for at-risk youth? Join our Team YOUCAN Youth Services is seeking an energetic, relational and organized Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator to help at-risk youth in the cities where we serve.
The individual in this position will be responsible for engaging community support and help to build and sustain a volunteer base for YOUCAN Youth Services. Supporting the Executive Director, the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator will plan, manage, and implement YOUCAN Youth Services volunteer and community engagement activities by cultivating relationships with key community stakeholders, members of the community and volunteers who are engaged with our programs.
Committed to seeing the mission and vision of YOUCAN Youth Services, the Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator actively facilitates a variety of opportunities for the community to support our mission, both financially and in spirit. This position is responsible for the planning, execution and evaluation of a volunteer and community engagement program that results in increasing support, knowledge and understanding of the programs at YOUCAN.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Promote the mission and vision of YOUCAN Youth Services throughout the Central Alberta area and be an example of the values and principles that are the foundation of our YOUCAN Youth Services.
● Support existing programs that increase awareness of the work of YOUCAN Youth Services regarding the issues of poverty and at-risk youth and help to identify new programs as appropriate.
● Coordinate with interdepartmental groups to leverage any relevant current programs.
● Prepare monthly reports on progress and activities achieved against the key performance indicators established.
Development
● Recruit and coordinate volunteers to facilitate learning sessions on job skills, financial literacy, life skills and other topics of interest while also supporting our food program by preparing meals for youth in our programs.
● Identify additional volunteer opportunities, such as mentorship and new support initiatives.
● Engage community members and organizations to support fundraising efforts, including securing third-party event partnerships and leveraging personal networks to increase donations.
● Work alongside the Fund Development Manager to support our annual Comedy Nights fundraiser by engaging corporate sponsors and selling tickets.
● Represent YOUCAN at community networking events to increase awareness of programs to expand our impact.
● Strengthen and expand partnerships with employers who provide learning opportunities and work experiences that are critical for helping young people secure meaningful employment.
● Assist with the preparation of grant applications.
● Cultivate relationships with corporate and individual donors, key community stakeholders, and members of the community.
● Part of the team that does the Hands-on planning and coordination of development activities and special events with emphasis on the Comedy Nights and Celebration of Success Signature Events.
Community Engagement
● Establish strong rapport and relationships in the community by representing our values in all community interactions including educational venues and community business leaders.
● Build and implement a strategic Community Engagement program aligned with and supportive of YOUCAN Youth Services Strategic Plan in conjunction with the Alberta Community Engagement teams and localize those strategies specific to Edmonton and Central Alberta community needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
● A passion to help at-risk youth
● Post-secondary education, with preference given to an applicant with 1 to 3 years of experience in Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordination.
● Superior interpersonal skills, making presentations and public speaking skills, and good listening skills.
● Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
● A skill for building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
● Exceptional planning and prioritization skills, time management and organizational skills.
● Proficiency in Microsoft office programs, writing reports, letters
● Demonstrated drive and initiative to accomplish results.
● Self-motivated and ability to work independently.
● Employment Security Check, Child Intervention Check and Class 5 Driver's License is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
● Time more than regular working hours will be required to meet deadlines that arise from time to time, as well as working networking and signature events outside of normal working hours.
● Although main working hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, regular flexibility will be required as evening and weekend priorities arise
● This will be an office-based position which also requires frequent external meetings and presentations and may be out of the office on a regular basis
● Moderate physical effort required to assist with events that could involve lifting, standing long periods of time and working in various climates. Pro-longed periods of sitting, computer use
● Moderate to extreme mental effort required to meet deadlines, ensure accuracy of data and entry into Client Relationship Management systems. Ability to handle and respond to occasional intense situations
● Local travel expected with some travel outside Edmonton through the surrounding communities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
● An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at YOUCAN Youth Services
● This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company use. The candidate must have a valid driver's license and maintain $2M Vehicle Liability insurance on the vehicle being used.

● Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
