**Working for the Department**
The U of A Sexual Assault Centre (UASAC) provides various types of support to survivors of sexual violence and their supporters, as well as comprehensive educational workshops for the campus community. We actively work towards creating a campus community free of sexual violence and operate from a feminist, anti-oppressive, intersectional, trauma-informed, and person-centered framework. We believe all survivors and the experiences of all individuals who have faced sexual or gender-based violence. All services are free of charge and available to people of all genders, sexualities, and backgrounds.
**Position**
The Volunteer Program Coordinator is accountable for the delivery of programming that promotes student engagement, student retention, and wellness in members of the University community who have experienced sexual assault or abuse, sexual harassment, stalking, relationship violence, and other experiences of sexual violence. The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the operations of the UASAC Volunteer Program, which includes developing and overseeing a training and management infrastructure for Volunteers.
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for helping to promote student engagement and fostering social responsibility by way of managing the Volunteer Program and supervising individual Volunteers. In this capacity, they will recruit, interview, train, and mentor a team of 20-30 Volunteers on an annual basis. This involves developing effective recruitment and interview tools to aid in the selection process and making staffing decisions with mínimal input from other colleagues. After Volunteers are chosen, the Volunteer Program Coordinator will create and revise digital and interactive volunteer training materials to ensure the cohort is educated in line with best practices in the provision of peer support. These training materials are implemented in our annual Volunteer Training which is primarily facilitated by the Volunteer Program Coordinator.
Throughout the academic year, the Volunteer Program Coordinator will continue to monitor the supportive practices and emotional well-being of volunteers, providing consistent mentorship and support on an individual basis as needed, and arranging for additional training opportunities to keep volunteers engaged. Further, the Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of procedural documents related to the overall functioning of the Volunteer Program. The volunteer coordinator will also support the Drop-In Supports program, by providing as-needed crisis intervention to survivors accessing the Centre. This involves responding to, assessing, and addressing disclosures of sexual and gender-based violence experienced by members of the campus community. This could involve the performance of risk assessments for harm to self or others, psychoeducational support, acting as an advocate or referral point for clients navigating complex systems and processes, and providing accompaniment to medical and reporting services on
