R&M Construction is a family run company that specializes in restoring natural waterways in Southern Ontario. We are based in Acton, Ontario and operate year-round. Our projects include creek restoration, shoreline protection, stormwater management pond retrofits and more.

We are looking for a Health & Safety Manager to join our team. The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for maintaining comprehensive health and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulations, and COR certification. This role involves conducting risk assessments, inspections, training employees and fostering a culture of safety within the organization. The successful candidate must be hands-on and able to visit job sites to assist with identifying and implementing ways to work with us to ensure work is being completed safely.

This is a hands-on role, where you will be required to not only ensure that the H&S program is being adhered to, but also assist with the implementation including identifying safety concerns and addressing them.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education or training in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in the construction industry
  • Experience with COR Certification preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and capable of working independently and as part of a team. Strong commitment to promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Ability to take initiative, multitask and maintain attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and other computer systems, able to quickly learn various software and apps, adapt to new technologies
  • Valid G-class driver's license required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site inspections, hazard and risk assessments; recommend and assist with the implementation of safety improvements
  • Support supervisors in monitoring and maintaining safety compliance, recommending and implementing safety improvements as necessary
  • Maintain our current Health & Safety Program and proactively create new policies and programs as required
  • Ensure all activities comply with company policies and industry regulations
  • Ensure COR 2020 audit readiness and compliance, conduct annual COR Internal Audit
  • Lead safety meetings and maintain required documentation
  • Manage and monitor use of safety equipment and supplies
  • Analyze safety data, recommend and implement action where needed
  • Perform related administrative tasks and annual H&S Program updates
  • Evaluate and identify training needs for the company with respect to safety and health.
  • Provide safety training and orientation to employees
  • Ongoing review of safety policies, procedures and practices

Hours:

37.5 hours / week

Hours to be determined, as there is some flexibility.

We have a safety meeting every Monday morning at 6:00 which you would be required to be at. Other days could start later and hours could fluctuate depending on workload which may vary due to deadlines / project schedule.

$30-$40/hour depending on experience.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
