POSITION SUMMARY:

The Health and Safety Training Consultant is responsible for assessing the health and safety training needs and providing high risk health and safety training/programs to both member and non-member firms. The duties will include, but are not limited to scheduling, designing, delivering, recommending and evaluating training programs and services for clients within Ontario and, at times, nationally and internationally for the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association ("IHSA"). The Health and Safety Training Consultant reports directly to the Manager, Health and Safety Education.

LOCATION: Remote Work

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: It is a term and condition for the granting of employment in this position and it will be a term and condition of continuing employment in this position that the individual's permanent residence is within one hundred (100) kilometre radius of 21 Voyager Court South, Etobicoke, ON, M9W 5M7.

SALARY: $119,250.06– $140,260.23

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver and facilitate high-risk health and safety training programs, services and presentations that adhere to current federal and/or provincial legislation and support the policies, procedures, objectives and vision of IHSA to a variety of audiences (senior management, supervisors, front line workers and general audiences). This includes; plan, build, maintain and remove permanent and temporary training tools, materials, equipment systems used for demonstration to provide hands on experience for course participants. In addition demonstrate, observe, implement and evaluate high-risk occupations while acting as a subject matter expert in high-risk work activities, including but not limited to high angle rescue, ladder handling, lock out tag out, arborist work, propane equipment, forklift, confined spaces, suspended access equipment, elevated work platforms, truck/trailer.
  • Consult and coordinate with stakeholders, management, various trade sectors, colleges, industry suppliers, and employer associations to build strong strategic partnerships to assess, identify and address their training or other needs through a gap analysis process. This may include assisting in the development of customized programs and courses to meet their needs as requested; schedule and manage course delivery timetable at client locations; and produce, file and maintain accurate participant reports.
  • Provides a high level of specialized subject matter expertise in a variety of areas and maintains an up-to-date knowledge base of industry best practices, as well as working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation within federal and provincial sectors. Collaborates with Program Development to ensure programs and content align with industry legislation and best practices, as required.
  • Prepare, present and facilitate workshops to widely diversified audiences (from frontline workers to senior management) at Injury Prevention Seminars, trade conferences, other safety associations, technical conferences or other events.
  • Utilize trade experience and technical expertise; assist in the researching of information for articles, national standards, educational material, monthly publications and/or membership inquiries, and participate in critical accident or fatality investigations as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of post-secondary education, apprenticeship, or trade school required. Trade-related training such as Fleet Signing Authority, Certified Director of Safety, or Certified Safety Supervisor programs will be considered as transportation-specific post-secondary education.
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial vehicle driving experience with a valid Class AZ or BZ driver's license.
  • A valid Class A–Z driver's license (as required) with a clean driver's abstract is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial transportation fleet management experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and subject matter expertise in the Highway Traffic Act, MTO Facility Audit, Commercial Motor Vehicle Collision Investigation, MTO Driver Certification Program, Mandatory Entry-Level Training, Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Trip Inspection, Hours of Service, Load Security, Air Brakes, In-Cab Evaluations/Coaching, Basics of Supervision, Defensive Driving (Commercial/General), WHMIS, and Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Certification Programs (transportation).
  • Knowledge of Confined Space and Lift Truck safety is considered an asset.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred.
  • Previous frontline supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Proven knowledge of program development, delivery, and adult learning principles.
  • Advanced understanding of health and safety management systems, programs, and relevant federal and provincial legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Infrastructure Health and Safety industry and network.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), internet and intranet applications, and relevant technology including audio/visual and fall protection training equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with staff, members, suppliers, and government contacts (WSIB, MLTSD, ESDC) to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs aligned with prevention initiatives.
  • Creative, energetic, and self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical ability to assess training needs and develop effective health and safety programs.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively.
  • Ability to inspect and drive IHSA commercial vehicles to trade and training locations.
  • Ability to haul, set up, and pack up the IHSA Mobile Classroom.
  • 75% minimum interview score required for consideration.
