About this opportunity:
The Business Opportunity Management Specialist will be part of the broader Business Transformation team accountable for delivering the mid-to-long-term ERP Modernization roadmap with a focus on value creation and working with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) team to embed AI into our processes where it further enhances value or makes Cenovus more cost competitive.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a newly created Business Transformation team (BT) that works closely with the various business functions and D&IT to create value, focused on three pillars: 1) ERP Modernization, 2) AI Development and Deployment, and 3) Cost Competitiveness.

This role reports to the Senior Manager, Business Engagement.

What you'll do:
Business Case Management and Development:
Work in conjunction with operational and functional groups throughout the project life cycle including initial problem statement identification through to execution and value creation, lookback and analysis. This includes managing all assigned projects through the Cenovus Capital Allocation Framework and gating process, including option analysis, partnering with other functions as required and ensuring robust business cases are developed prior to recommendation for approval in a resource and cost constrained environment.

Partner with Execution Teams:
Effectively collaborate with D&IT and AI technical teams to ensure alignment with ERP and AI strategies and governance. This includes understanding where data and processes need to first be enhanced or optimized prior to any technical solutions being deployed.

Economics and Modeling:
Ensure that all initiatives are value accretive by achieving Cenovus internal investment metrics and standards, inclusive of enabling the business and operations functions to define the value and ensuring clear KPIs are defined upfront.

Project Management:
Work with Service Providers, D&IT PMO, Project Managers, Business Analysts and other Business Transformation team members to ensure project spending, KPIs and governance are accurately tracked, forecasted and reported.

Interface and Communications with Business Groups
: Continually work with and communicate cross functionally with operations and business functions to align on value accretive opportunities while effectively prioritizing those opportunities across Cenovus and maintaining diligence to guiding principles of the Business Transformation team.

Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Professional accreditation (i.e. CPA, APEGA, CFA, etc.) is an asset.
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in and oil and gas environment with project experience being an asset.
  • Experience with budget management and/or project economics.
  • Broad knowledge of ERP systems, niche applications and/or Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools is an asset.
  • Experience with Cenovus is seen as an asset.
