Position Overview

In the role of General Accountant, you will be essential in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and maintaining financial records, ensuring accuracy in general ledger entries and reconciliations.
  • Compiling financial data to produce timely and accurate financial statements and management reports.
  • Monitoring and analyzing financial performance, identifying variances, and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies in all financial reporting activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, providing valuable analysis to management.
  • Maintaining internal control systems to ensure the reliability of financial data.
  • Preparing year-end working papers and assisting with external audits.
  • Helping with tax filings and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background and a detail-oriented approach, capable of working independently while also collaborating effectively within a team.

  • A minimum of 5 years of local accounting experience in British Columbia, preferably in a corporate environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation (or in progress) is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and applicable tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate financial information clearly.
