About the Role:

Our client is seeking an experienced Jr Accountant to oversee and manage the accounting functions of their group of companies dealing with cold storage, property assets, and food. This role requires strong expertise in financial reconciliation, Canadian taxation, payroll, inventory, financial reporting, and liaising with external entities like CRA, banks, and auditors. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with tax regulations, support financial planning, and implement accounting best practices across multiple business operations, including property management, retail, and cold storage.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, credit card, operating LOC, and supplier deposit reconciliations.
  • Maintain general ledger entries, balance sheets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and security deposits.
  • Manage inventory accounting, ensuring accuracy in reporting and reconciliations.
  • Conduct financial analysis, including sales reports, royalty billing, and vendor reconciliation after reviewing warehouse and franchise stores' POS reports, purchase reports etc.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and yearly sales reports for retail locations.
  • Calculate royalty and other billing for retail stores with the inclusion of online sales through delivery partners.
  • Guide accounts receivable (A/R) processes and oversee financial audits.
  • Review business insurance policies and financial planning documentation.

Taxation & Compliance

  • Prepare, file, and reconcile GST, PST, and corporate tax payments.
  • Handle CRA inquiries, ensuring timely documentation and resolution.
  • Calculate and file WCB, payroll remittances, and health tax as per regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee payroll preparation, tax reconciliations, and statutory reporting.

Business Planning & Process Development

  • Support new business setups, including creating a Chart of Accounts and registering businesses in QuickBooks.
  • Develop standardization processes for financial reporting, inventory management, and royalty billing.
  • Prepare and submit year-end reports for auditors and tax authorities.
  • Train accounting staff on internal processes and compliance measures.
  • Liaise with banks, vendors, auditors, and other third parties to support financial operations.
  • Develop new business process automation tech systems along with the tech team.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of Canadian accounting experience
    , preferably in multi-business environments, preferably in the
    food industry
    and
    franchise business model
    .
  • Expertise in
    QuickBooks, Excel, and accounting software
    .
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax laws, payroll regulations, and corporate finance.
  • Experience with
    warehouse-level inventory management
    , financial modelling, and process standardization.
  • Ability to handle multiple companies' financials with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize effectively.
