Role Overview

The Manager, Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) is responsible for administering, maintaining, and continuously improving Sonora's GFSI FSSC 22000 certified food safety and quality assurance programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, maintains strict quality standards, and partners closely with Sales, Customer Service, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that all products meet Sonora's commitment to quality and food safety excellence.

Key Responsibilitie
s


• Design, implement, and maintain food safety prerequisite programs.


• Administer GFSI FSSC 22000 program certification, annual recertification, and ongoing compliance.


• Oversee the sanitation and environmental monitoring program and pest control program.


• Manage product quality and shelf-life monitoring programs.


• Deliver timely and effective employee food safety training.


• Manage product development initiatives, develop, and document product specifications in collaboration with Supply Chain and Production teams.


• Ensure regulatory compliance across all aspects of food safety and quality.


• Implement continuous improvements in food safety systems and programs.


• Administer product quality and monitoring programs to ensure customer and consumer standards are met.


• Track and drive improvements in food safety and quality KPIs (defect incidents, customer complaints, GMP compliance, environmental monitoring, shelf-life analysis, etc.).


• Take a leadership role in resolving both product and process non-conformances through root cause analysis and cross-functional collaboration.


• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance food safety and product quality while minimizing operational waste and inefficiencies.

Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, STEM, or related disciplines.


• Minimum 5 years of experience leading a FSQA team within food manufacturing.


• Proven experience administering a GFSI-compliant food safety program (FSSC 22000, BRC, or SQF) in a food processing environment, preferably in baking or CPG manufacturing.


• Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, GMP, sanitation practices, and environmental monitoring.


• Experience with product development and specification management.


• Proficiency in software tools for compliance, project management, and ERP systems.


• Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
