Senior Bookkeeper / Cleanup Specialist,
someone who thrives on fixing what others avoid and takes pride in clean, accurate, complete financials.
Role Description
This is hybrid or remote (for the right person), full-time role located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The Senior Bookkeeper / Client Cleanup Specialist will play a critical role in maintaining updated and accurate financial records for small business clients. Responsibilities include managing financial statements, performing catch-up bookkeeping, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accurate journal entries. Additionally, the role involves using accounting software to troubleshoot and clean up client financial systems, improving overall financial clarity and organization.
Responsibilities
- Managing a handful of established client accounts and becoming their main point of contact.
- Diving into
messy, neglected books
and bringing them to current.
- Reconciling
HST, payroll taxes, WSIB, and other government remittances
accurately and on time.
- Preparing year-end working papers that make accountants genuinely happy.
- Supporting new client onboarding and helping our team grow efficiently.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years
of full-cycle bookkeeping experience (10 preferred).
- Experience with
20–40 different client files
— you've seen it all and can adapt quickly.
- You understand balance sheets, not just bank feeds.
- You can
spot a misposted payroll journal
from across the room.
- You've cleaned up enough files to know that "a few months behind" means "two years deep."
- You're self-driven, detail-oriented, and don't need supervision to perform.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required.
