Accounting Manager

Toronto, ON (In-office)

$115,000–$125,000 plus bonus and benefits

Our client is a well-established real estate company with a growing portfolio and a commitment to long-term value creation. This role oversees day-to-day accounting, period-end close, reporting, audits, and analytical activities that support accurate financial performance measurement and ongoing organizational growth.

Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations & Controls

  • Oversee the month-end and quarter-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls.
  • Manage intercompany accounting and monthly reconciliations, ensuring compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding of new real estate investments from an accounting perspective, including reviewing structures, coordinating with tax, and managing banking and cash-flow setup.
  • Maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal reporting controls.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial statements and investor reporting packages in accordance with
    IFRS
    and
    US GAAP (Investment Company Accounting)
    .
  • Lead quarterly reporting deliverables, including consolidated reporting, management discussion materials, and portfolio analytics.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, support audit inquiries, and coordinate documentation for tax reporting.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, working papers, and reconciliations to ensure complete, audit-ready reporting.

Financial Analysis & Insights

  • Produce financial and management reporting with a focus on investment return metrics (IRR, MOC, TWR).
  • Support preparation of presentations for valuation, board meetings, and quarterly review sessions.
  • Oversee affiliate fee calculations, investor capital calls, and distribution processes.
  • Work with asset management and finance leadership to support budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial planning, including variance analysis.
  • Monitor liquidity and assist in evaluating capital needs across the portfolio.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to a growing accounting team, fostering collaboration, professional development, and operational excellence.
  • Streamline accounting and reporting processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and risk management.
  • Champion best practices in financial controls, reporting, and use of accounting systems.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation (CPA, CA)
    preferred.
  • 6+ years
    of progressive experience in public accounting and/or industry; real estate experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of
    IFRS
    ,
    US GAAP
    , and consolidations.
  • Experience with accounting or reporting systems such as
    Yardi
    or
    OneStream
    is preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in real estate and financial markets.
