Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating the daily activities of the maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment. This role oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs, supports plant production goals, and ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Job Description:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and contractors to complete repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all maintenance work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, chemical handling procedures, and regulatory standards (OSHA, WHMIS, etc.).
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance activities to minimize production downtime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues, including pumps, valves, piping systems, compressors, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Monitor spare parts inventory and coordinate with purchasing to ensure critical components are available.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
- Train and mentor maintenance staff on safe work practices, troubleshooting, and technical skills.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and facility modifications as needed.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Perform periodic audits and inspections on a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly as directed by the site maintenance program and maintain records. All defects or repairs are clearly noted on forms.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Safe Practices including Hot Work, Lockout and Confined Space. – Must attend and participate in various training programs pertaining to maintenance.
- Provide good customer service, and maintain a continuous improvement focus, by working with stakeholders to resolve issues and recommend improvements to maintenance productivity and quality.
- Practice and actively promote company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures;
- Develop and promote a positive employee relations environment within the department
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a College Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, or related technical field.
- 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience in maintenance.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation systems.
- Familiarity with chemical plant operations and process equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance best practices and CMMS software.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
- Proven project management, prioritization skills, excellent communication and problem solving abilities
- Thorough understanding of WHMIS regulations
- Experience with Microsoft office is required
- Familiar with Pumps, pipe fitting, welding
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license
Working Conditions:
- Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, noise, and moving equipment.
- May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, safety glasses, and gloves.
- Some overtime, weekend, and on-call work may be required.
