Position Summary

The OWHA Competitions Coordinator plays a key role in organizing and managing OWHA leagues across Ontario. This role oversees league structure, scheduling, officiating coordination, budgeting, and compliance while ensuring a positive, equitable, and high-quality experience for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

Competition Coordination

  • Develop and manage league structures, divisions, and schedules for OWHA leagues and championships.
  • Coordinate and monitor regular season, playoff and playdown schedules.
  • Communicate with participating associations and others to ensure smooth operations.
  • Oversee league policy compliance, scheduling changes, and game approvals.
  • Plan and execute Provincial Championships and Championship weekends, including ice booking and awards coordination.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer convenors and event staff.

Officials

  • Actively support the Officiating Program volunteers to enhance officiating schedules, development opportunities, and overall governance.

Promotion & Communication

  • Maintain accurate and timely league information on the OWHA website and social media.
  • Collaborate with the Promotion team to highlight events, results, and milestones.
  • Support research and advocacy initiatives promoting diversity, inclusion, and safe sport.

Planning & Administration

  • Contribute to short- and long-term league planning and operations strategies.
  • Support event planning and logistics for league and championship activities.
  • Manage league budgets and track financial performance.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in budget management and administrative coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Conflict resolution and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • A proactive, independent work style with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in league or event management and coordination.
  • Post-secondary education in Sport Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and deliver large-scale sport events or programs.
  • Strong understanding of hockey operations and structures.
  • Knowledge of women's hockey, sport management, or experience promoting female sport is preferred.
