The Law Clerk Support role is a valued member of the Real Estate practice group who will provide short and long-term coverage to the Law Clerks within the Real Estate practice group. This support role requires a unique blend of skills and experience providing support in both Commercial and Residential Real Estate matters with desk coverage at both office locations. The position will require a professional, confident, and reliable Law Clerk with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be organized, and client service focused.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide support to the Real Estate practice group with the following, but not limited to:


• Practice group projects


• Workload overflow

Provide backup coverage in the absence of other Law Clerks within the Real Estate practice group including, but not limited to:

  • Residential and builder real estate transactions – drafting and full process of legal and banking documents in the areas of purchase, sale and refinance from opening to closing file
  • Conducting tax and title searches with attention to detail
  • Communicate with clients, realtors and third parties in a professional and courteous manner
  • Manage closing dates and other deadlines
  • Provide support for acquisitions and sales of commercial properties, condominium developments and financing transactions
  • Provide support on commercial real estate transactions – drafting and full process of legal and banking documents in the areas of purchase, sale, and refinance from opening to closing files
  • Carry out title and off-title due diligences searches on commercial properties and reviewing reports
  • Carry out due diligences searches for PPR, Corporate, Bankruptcy, Court Actions
  • Draft reports to lenders
  • Assist in commercial lending transactions
  • Drafting statutory right of ways, covenants, easements
  • Dealing with municipalities and strata corporations
  • Other duties as may be required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 plus years of experience closing real estate transactions
  • Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post‐secondary institution or combination of relevant education and experience
  • Experience with builder work an asset
  • Experience with Unity software an asset
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal directly with clients
  • High proficiency in MS Office and ability to learn new software and technology quickly
  • The ability to work some overtime as required
