Course number and title: CIN304H5 The Violent Image
Topic description: It is commonly believed that violent images produce violent, or desensitized people. In this class, we will examine the multiple forms of violence in film, television, and videogames as well as the variety of discourses about violence and images. Rather than confirming the moral logic of condemnation of the violent image, we will ask instead what good a violent image might do.
Estimated course enrolment: 100
Estimated TA support: 50 hours (TA grader position)
Class schedule: Wednesday lecture 9:00-11:00, Screening, Thursday 12:00-15:00
Sessional dates of appointment: January 5 - April 6, 2026
Salary:
$54.27 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Minimum qualifications: Graduate degree in Cinema Studies is preferred. Previous TA experience in a CIN course will be preferred.
Description of duties: (May include but are not limited to): May include but are not limited to): Conducting tutorials & maintaining scheduled office hours, student and course instructor contact, grading, invigilating, and other clerical duties.
