Course Title: SSM1040 - Managerial Economics for Sustainability Management
Class Schedule: Winter Term: Mondays, 1-4pm
Dates of Appointment: January 1st, 2026 – April 30th, 2026
Description of Course: This course covers economic approaches to environmental problems and sustainability. The course will deal with economic principles that explain the operation of markets and firms and will also deal with the economic meaning of sustainability, the valuation of ecosystem services, transferable pollution permits, environmental regulation, and environmental activism. The course will also discuss divergences between private and social costs, the tragedy of the commons, the economics of sustainability, externalities, pollution, and the allocation of depletable and renewable resources over time.
Position Description: Typical duties may include invigilation, grading term exams and assignments, compiling grades, adding to course content as appropriate. Additional duties may include: setting up and/or maintaining Quercus course site; and hosting weekly office hours. Other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications: Must have completed and achieved a minimum grade of "A" in SSM 1040 or equivalent courses
Preferred Qualifications: Preferably a PhD student (Doctoral Candidate) in managerial economics or a suitable graduate student with research interest as it pertains to managerial economics in sustainability. Preference given to applicants with previous TA experience in this course.
Salary FCE): $ vacation pay

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
