Job Overview:
The "Technical Writer" role is an exciting opportunity to work with the Learning and Development team at Specialty Health Network. Under the direction of the Learning and Development Manager, this role will be responsible for creating clear and concise technical documentation that effectively communicates complex processes, procedures, workflows and training assets. You will collaborate closely with various roles and departments to gather information and translate it into user-friendly documentation. In addition to core writing responsibilities, the role will also support knowledge management activities, including helping organize documentation within enterprise platforms and ensuring content is accessible, consistent, and aligned to established standards. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, a solid understanding of technical concepts, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including job aids, work instructions, release notes, and other supporting materials in compliance with policies and procedures, all applicable governing legislation and internal business processes
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to gather information and understand procedural concepts and workflows
- Translate technical information into clear and concise language that is easily understood by both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of workflows within Patient Support Programs and internal roles to recommend strategies that promote compliance, collaboration, and adherence to business processes
- Review, edit, and proofread new and existing documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness
- Ensure documentation meets industry standards and best practices for technical writing
- Work closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts to obtain necessary information and approvals
- Continuously improve documentation processes and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support knowledge management activities by structuring, organizing, and maintaining documentation repositories (e.g., SharePoint), ensuring content is easily searchable and aligned to established information architecture and governance guidelines.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation processes, tools, and content lifecycle management (versioning, archiving, tagging, and content hygiene) to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
Other Duties:
The Technical Writer will carry out other duties and projects as required, to be delegated by the Senior Manager, Learning & Development and Manager, Learning & Development
Qualifications And Skills
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in communications English, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience as a Technical Writer, in a Knowledge Management or similar role, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
- Ability to work independently with keen attention to detail combined with a high degree of professionalism
- Knowledge of patient support programs, reimbursement navigation and pharmacy an asset
- Must have excellent interpersonal, presentation, problem solving, decision-making, and listening skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently, managing multiple projects, and priorities simultaneously
- A strong team player with the ability to engage with all levels of stakeholders
- Proficiency in using documentation tools and software, such as Microsoft Word, MS PowerPoint Microsoft Visio, Excel, and SharePoint
- Experience administering or organizing content within SharePoint or similar content management platforms, including applying metadata, folder structures, or permissions.
- Ability to use formatting tools, graphics, diagrams, and screenshots to enhance clarity and visual appeal of content
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS), Learning Management Systems (LMS) and single-sourcing methods
- Understanding of information architecture, content governance principles, or knowledge management practices is an asset.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies and content review cycles
- Familiarity with adult learning methodologies and developing training content
