Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting a full-time, temporary Summer Métis Family Resource Assistant.

This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Métis Family Resource Supervisor, the successful candidate will assist in providing culturally sensitive, client-centered supports to Métis children and families involved with the child intervention system. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department's goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Métis Family Resource Workers (MFRW) and observe family Alberta Children & Family Services meetings (where appropriate and consented to).
  • Observe and learn about program processes, documentation, and culturally informed practice.
  • Assist with gathering, updating, and organizing program resources including program digital resource drive and physical resource spaces.
  • Support with administrative tasks such as preparing forms, organizing program data, assembling activity kits, and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Support the creation and updating of program forms and templates.
  • Support in the development of activities that are culturally relevant, age appropriate, and aligned with program goals.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of department events, workshops, and gatherings.
  • Participate and represent the Otipemisiwak Métis Government in community engagements and other opportunities.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Support other Otipemisiwak Métis Government Children and Family Services (CFS) initiatives and perform other duties as required or assigned.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite applications, Adobe, and Google Workspace.
  • Political and cultural sensitivity.
  • Understanding of Métis culture and history or willingness to learn and engage respectfully.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and trustworthy.
  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Obtained or pursuing post-secondary education in Human/Social Service or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • Experience working in the Human Services field is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check is required.
