**Summer Environment Field Assistant**
**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton, AB
**Position Status**: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Students (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Support environmental monitoring field work, specifically plant monitoring and identification, and/or wildlife monitoring.
- Assist with data collection, data entry, and analysis form environmental monitoring work.
- Support the planning and implementation of community engagements and events, in person or online.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
**Skills & Competencies**
We are looking for motivated, confident individuals who are passionate about environmental monitoring and have excellent analytical skills. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
Knowledge of Alberta plant vegetation and identification is an asset.
**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years related experience in an environmental monitoring role is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience in wildlife monitoring, including trail camera and ARU use is an asset.
- Experience using ArcGIS and working with Indigenous communities are assets.
**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
