**Summer Languages Program Assistant**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton, AB

**Position Status**: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Students (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist in the coordination of initiatives aimed at promoting the Michif Language, including the development and delivery of Michif language programs and community engagements.
- Act as a liaison between the Michif language community and external stakeholders.
- Support the MNA Languages unit with the development of strategies to promote awareness of the Michif language.
- Develop program materials for internal and external use, including for community engagements, events, and workshops.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

**Skills & Competencies**

We are looking for motivated, confident individuals who are passionate about community work and promotion of the Michif language. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:

- Some knowledge of Métis history, culture, languages, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Native Studies, Languages, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- Experience with event and program planning and execution is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
