Summary of Position

Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. (KKI) is seeking a permanent, full-time Traditional Parenting and Mentoring Coordinator to join our team. This position focuses on restoring, strengthening, and supporting the transmission of Nehiyaw (Cree) parenting teachings and mentorship practices across KKI's prevention and wellness services. The Coordinator will work in close relationship with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, parents, and Nation mentors, ensuring that teachings are shared and protected in ways that honor Cree cultural protocol, kinship systems, and seasonal cycles of learning. Through this role, the Coordinator will contribute to healing, identity strengthening, family unity, and the long-term wellness of children, youth, caregivers, and extended kin, supporting intergenerational belonging and relational accountability within the Ermineskin Cree Nation. Traditional Parenting and Mentoring Coordinator will be responsible for:

· Building and maintaining reciprocal, trusting relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, genealogical family mentors, and caregivers, following Cree kinship protocol and Nation values.

· Documenting traditional teachings in ways that protect cultural ownership and protocol, ensuring materials are shared only with Nation approval and in alignment with seasonal cycles, language use, and family systems.

· Developing culturally grounded parenting and mentorship resources, in partnership with the Program Training & Development Specialist, ensuring teachings are shared respectfully, accurately, and with consent.

· Coordinating and facilitate parenting circles, mentorship gatherings, rites of passage, returning-home teachings, and land-based experiences, guided by Elders and ceremonial direction.

· Promoting Nation access to traditional teachings by coordinating logistics and reducing barriers to participation, centering inclusion, equity, and care for the most vulnerable.

· Mentoring staff and youth in traditional parenting values, mentorship protocols, and respectful engagement with teachings, modeling humility, accountability, and a commitment to Nation welfare.

· Collaborating with Family Support Workers to integrate teachings into home visits, program delivery, and family wellness planning.

· Supporting intergenerational learning, connecting youth and caregivers to Elders through ceremony, land teachings, and lived family structures.

· Leading or supporting Nation-driven special projects such as curriculum development, cultural archiving, family system restoration, and storytelling preservation, honoring knowledge sovereignty.

· Researching and evaluating best practices in Indigenous and non-Indigenous parenting and mentorship models for cultural relevance and alignment with Nehiyaw values, with critical reflection and stewardship of Cree ways of knowing.

· Ensuring accurate data entry into case management systems in accordance with KKI's documentation protocols, maintaining accountability, transparency, and privacy respect.

· Advocating for Nehiyaw parenting sovereignty and traditional governance structures in organizational planning, policy development, and program implementation.

· Participating in seasonal planning, Nation engagement, and ceremonial activities to ensure programming remains responsive and rooted in Nehiyaw values, including seasonal stewardship and active participation.

· Maintaining accurate, respectful, confidential, and up-to-date records of all family interactions, teachings, and Elder guidance with trust and ethical stewardship.

· Preparing regular reports, analyses, and statistics to support program oversight and strategic planning, ensuring transparent communication that supports well-being and cultural continuity.

· Performing duties as assigned by the Cultural Wellness Manager, approaching each task with flexibility and service to Nation needs guided by shared values.

· Upholding strict confidentiality and adhering to all privacy laws, KKI policies, and legislative requirements, demonstrating privacy respect and responsible conduct.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate's minimum requirements are:

· Diploma or Degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Services, or in an area relevant to the work performed. A combination of training and experience will be considered.

· Minimum 3 years of experience supporting cultural, parenting, or mentorship programming

· Proficiency with technology, Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), and data systems

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a team

· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions & teachings, protocols and Nation dynamics.

· Experience working with First Nation organizations & understands intergenerational violence and trauma in Indigenous Nations

· First Aid certification and safety training is an asset.

· Valid Class 5 driver's license, willingness to travel within the region, access to a personal vehicle, and satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Driver's Abstract, and Child Intervention Check.
