About KKI
Kanawemahwasowin Kamik (KKI) is a Neyaskweyahk (Ermineskin) based program for Children and Families. KKI primarily serving Ermineskin Cree Nation and its members and providing programs to strengthen families and prevent involvement of Child Intervention system. KKI integrates Cree traditions, language and elder wisdom into all aspects of its services while providing advocacy and support for Ermineskin families engaged with Child and Family Services.
Summary of Position
Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. (KKI) is seeking permanent, full-time Learning Circle Facilitators to join our team. This role is central to fostering family wellness, Nation connection, and intergenerational healing through inclusive, culturally grounded learning circles. The Facilitators will be responsible for leading sessions on a range of topics, including parenting, cultural teachings, mental wellness, and emotional regulation. A key responsibility of this position is to co-create and maintain safe, supportive spaces where all participants feel seen, heard, and empowered. The Leaning Circle Facilitators will be responsible for:
· Designing and facilitating culturally grounded, trauma-informed learning circles that address family wellness, parenting, relationships, and intergenerational healing.
· Co-creating and maintaining emotionally and culturally safe spaces for participants, integrating Indigenous knowledge, storytelling, and ceremony with the guidance of Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
· Developing and adapting circle curricula and materials to meet the evolving needs of the Nation, ensuring alignment with the Family Wellness program's goals.
· Building and maintaining strong, respectful relationships with Nation members, Elders, and internal teams to ensure cultural integrity and holistic support.
· Advocating for the Circle philosophy by facilitating training and consultations that emphasize family strengths, cultural safety, and collaborative, Nation-driven outcomes for children and families.
· Providing appropriate emotional support and crisis intervention during sessions, and facilitate warm referrals to specialized services (e.g., counselling, cultural wellness, family support) as needed.
· Actively participating in Nation outreach and cultural events to promote the program and strengthen KKI's presence and trust within the Nation.
· Maintaining accurate records, track participant attendance and engagement, and prepare reports on circle outcomes to support program evaluation and funding requirements.
· Collaborating with Family Support Workers and Family Wellness Practitioners to identify and invite families who would benefit from circle participation.
· Supporting the planning and facilitation of land-based healing camps and cultural workshops as part of the broader Family Wellness program.
· Assisting in the development and sharing of resources that promote wellness, such as toolkits on emotional regulation, traditional parenting practices, and healthy relationships.
· Providing support, guidance, and safety during the Circle process to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children/youth and families involved.
· Preparing regular reports, analyses, and statistics to support program oversight and strategic planning.
· Performing all duties as assigned by the Learning Circle Lead while upholding strict confidentiality, ethical standards, and adherence to all privacy laws, KKI policies, and legislative requirements.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate's minimum requirements are:
· A Diploma or Post Secondary Degree in Social Services, or Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Human Services, or in an area relevant to the work performed. A combination of training and experience will be considered (or equivalent lived experience)
· Experience facilitating group learning or wellness sessions in Indigenous contexts
· Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews, healing practices, and Nation dynamics
· Participate in Nation outreach, cultural programming, and wellness events is a requirement.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and how to create emotionally safe spaces is preferred
· Specialized training in Indigenous counselling approaches and/or registration with a professional regulatory body are considered strong assets.
· Ability to incorporate Elder teachings, Indigenous languages, and cultural practices into therapeutic work
· A solid understanding of the historical and contemporary experiences of First Nations and Indigenous peoples in Canada, including the intergenerational impact of Residential Schools, is essential.
· Experience, knowledge, and skill in group facilitation would be an asset.
· Thorough knowledge and experience of Circle facilitation and Alternative Dispute Resolution process is an asset.
· Proficiency with technology, Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), and data systems
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a team, with strong organizational and time management skills to handle planning and documentation.
· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions & teachings, protocols and Nation dynamics.
· First Aid certification and safety training is an asset.
· Valid Class 5 drivers license (willingness to travel within the region), access to personal vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record, Drivers Abstract and Child intervention check.
