Summary of Position

Kanawemahwasowin Kamik Inc. (KKI) is seeking a permanent, full-time Land-Based Program Coordinator to join our Cultural Wellness Team. This role is responsible for designing, guiding, and delivering land-based learning rooted in Nehiyaw (Cree) cultural teachings, family systems, kinship responsibilities, and seasonal cycles of knowledge. The Coordinator will work in close relationship with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, fluent speakers, youth, families, and Nation members to support intergenerational learning, identity strengthening, cultural pride, and personal and Nation healing. This position contributes to family wellness, cultural continuity, and Nation empowerment, ensuring that land-based learning remains protocol-aligned, relational, and guided by Cree law, ceremony, and values. The Land Based Program Coordinator will be responsible for:

· Designing and implementing seasonal land-based programming, including cultural camps, ceremonies, harvesting, hide work, medicines, food teachings, and traditional skills workshops, guided by Elders and rooted in Nehiyaw worldview, kinship, reciprocity, and land stewardship.

· Developing and implementing language and cultural programs to increase fluency and cultural knowledge, anchored in language vitality, cultural integrity, and lifelong learning.

· Co-creating culturally safe learning environments that reflect Cree knowledge systems, including seasonal learning guides, experiential learning tools, visual storytelling resources, and land-based curriculum frameworks.

· Facilitating cultural activities such as language circles, rites of passage, storytelling sessions, and seasonal teachings, ensuring respectful and protocol-driven delivery guided by Elders and Nation norms.

· Collaborating with Nation departments and stakeholders to align programming, share resources, and avoid duplication of services across wellness, youth, and family initiatives, maintaining collaborative stewardship and efficiency.

· Supporting cultural integration across KKI departments by embedding land-based teachings, Cree language, and traditional practices into service delivery models, ensuring holistic well-being and cohesive Nation care.

· Mentoring youth and staff through hands-on learning and relational engagement in cultural knowledge and land-based practices, modeling humility, accountability, and service to family and members.

· Creating and organizing immersive learning materials, including language-based resources, seasonal calendars, plant/harvest guides, and land maps linked to Nehiyaw view.

· Coordinating logistics for cultural events, including transportation, supplies, site safety plans, Elder supports, and ceremonial needs, ensuring accessibility and safety for all participants.

· Maintaining documentation and records in a culturally respectful, confidential, and protocol-aligned manner, recognizing that teachings and cultural knowledge are sacred.

· Advocating for cultural sovereignty and Indigenous knowledge systems within organizational planning and policy development, centering Nation empowerment and self-determination.

· Participating in ceremonial observances, seasonal planning, and Nation engagement activities to ensure programming remains responsive and grounded in living Cree law.

· Preparing regular reports, analyses, and statistics to support program oversight and strategic planning, with clear, transparent communication that sustains cultural vitality.

· Performing duties as assigned by the Supervisor and upholding strict confidentiality while adhering to all privacy laws, KKI policies, and legislative requirements, demonstrating privacy respect and responsible conduct.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate's minimum requirements are:

· A diploma or degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, Child & Youth Care, or a related field is an asset. Equivalent training and experience will be considered. An Alberta Teaching Certificate or equivalent is preferred but not required.

· Minimum 3 years of experience in coordinating cultural or land-based programs and / or experience teaching in an Indigenous Nation or school setting

· Deep lived experience and/or formal training in Cree cultural practices, language, and land-based teachings

· Fluency or working knowledge of Cree language is a strong asset

· Proficiency with technology, Microsoft 365 Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), and data systems

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a team

· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions & teachings, protocols and Nation dynamics.

· Experience working with First Nation organizations & understands intergenerational violence and trauma in Indigenous Nations

· Valid Class 5 drivers license (willingness to travel within the region), access to personal vehicle and satisfactory Criminal Record, Drivers Abstract and Child intervention check.
