Overview
The NOC L1 Engineer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining network systems to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation. This role provides first-line technical support, identifies network incidents, performs basic troubleshooting, and escalates issues to Level 2 or field teams when required.
Key Responsibilities
- 24/7 monitoring of network infrastructure (routers, switches, microwave, fiber links, base stations, servers, etc.) using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or HP NNMi.
- Acknowledge and log network alerts and create incident tickets in systems like ServiceNow or Remedy.
- Perform initial troubleshooting — ping, traceroute, interface check, port status, and connectivity testing.
- Escalate unresolved or critical incidents to NOC L2 or Field Engineers as per escalation matrix.
- Monitor and track link performance, latency, and bandwidth utilization.
- Coordinate with vendors, field teams, and clients to ensure timely fault resolution.
- Update and maintain incident logs, shift reports, and network documentation.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for issue handling and escalation.
- Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and report any potential breaches.
- Participate in shift handovers, sharing network status and ongoing issues with the next shift.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic routing/switching concepts.
- Familiarity with network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, etc.) and monitoring tools.
- Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies, fiber, and wireless networks.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work in 24x7 shift rotation (including nights/weekends).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- CCNA / CompTIA Network+ / JNCIA or equivalent entry-level certification.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,627.08-$88,647.17 per year
