Overview

The NOC L1 Engineer is responsible for monitoring and maintaining network systems to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation. This role provides first-line technical support, identifies network incidents, performs basic troubleshooting, and escalates issues to Level 2 or field teams when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • 24/7 monitoring of network infrastructure (routers, switches, microwave, fiber links, base stations, servers, etc.) using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, or HP NNMi.
  • Acknowledge and log network alerts and create incident tickets in systems like ServiceNow or Remedy.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting — ping, traceroute, interface check, port status, and connectivity testing.
  • Escalate unresolved or critical incidents to NOC L2 or Field Engineers as per escalation matrix.
  • Monitor and track link performance, latency, and bandwidth utilization.
  • Coordinate with vendors, field teams, and clients to ensure timely fault resolution.
  • Update and maintain incident logs, shift reports, and network documentation.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for issue handling and escalation.
  • Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and report any potential breaches.
  • Participate in shift handovers, sharing network status and ongoing issues with the next shift.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic routing/switching concepts.
  • Familiarity with network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, etc.) and monitoring tools.
  • Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies, fiber, and wireless networks.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in 24x7 shift rotation (including nights/weekends).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • CCNA / CompTIA Network+ / JNCIA or equivalent entry-level certification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,627.08-$88,647.17 per year

  • Toronto, ON (Toronto District): reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
