Job Summary

The NOC L2 Engineer provides advanced technical support and escalation handling for network operations. They analyze and resolve complex network issues escalated from L1, ensure network stability, and perform proactive maintenance, configuration, and performance optimization of critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle escalated incidents from NOC L1 — perform deep troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, and transmission equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve network outages, latency issues, and routing problems using tools such as Wireshark, SNMP, SolarWinds, PRTG, HP NNMi, or NetFlow analyzers.
  • Configure and maintain network devices (Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Nokia, etc.) — including routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), switching (VLANs, STP, trunking), and firewall rules.
  • Analyze network performance trends, generate reports, and recommend optimization or capacity upgrades.
  • Work with service providers, vendors, and internal teams for root cause analysis (RCA) and long-term fixes.
  • Perform change management activities — implementing configuration changes, firmware upgrades, or patching under supervision or during maintenance windows.
  • Mentor and support L1 engineers, providing guidance and technical knowledge transfer.
  • Document incidents, RCA findings, and configuration updates in ticketing and documentation systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Remedy, Confluence).
  • Participate in network rollout projects, migrations, and testing new network solutions.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to SLAs, SOPs, and ITIL best practices.
  • Conduct periodic network audits to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with company policies.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, STP, VLAN, VPN, NAT, QoS).
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and configuration tools (Cisco IOS, JunOS, FortiGate, SolarWinds, Nagios, etc.).
  • Knowledge of network security and firewall administration.
  • Good analytical, troubleshooting, and incident management skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities for cross-team collaboration.
  • Ability to work under pressure and during critical maintenance windows (nights/weekends if needed).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • CCNP / JNCIS / CompTIA Security+ / ITIL Foundation.

Experience

  • 6-7 years of hands-on experience in Network Operations, NOC, or Infrastructure Support.
  • Experience managing large-scale enterprise or telecom networks is preferred.
  • Familiarity with incident and change management processes (ITIL framework).
  • Familiarity with operating systems including Linux distributions (CentOS/Ubuntu/Debian), Windows Server environments; system administration skills are essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex network issues quickly and effectively.

Pay: $45,627.08-$88,647.17 per year
