Job Overview – Experienced Commercial Garage Door Technician

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Garage Door Technician to join our team and support our growing portfolio of commercial and industrial clients. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical ability, extensive hands-on experience with sectional overhead doors, rolling steel doors, operators, and dock equipment, and is capable of working independently in the field.

You will be responsible for diagnosing issues, performing repairs, completing new installations, and ensuring exceptional service quality on every job site. This position is best suited for a technician who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in their workmanship, and understands the safety-critical nature of commercial door systems.

Key Responsibilities Installation & Service

• Install, repair, and maintain commercial overhead sectional doors, rolling steel/fire-rated doors, and aluminum/glass storefront doors.
• Install and troubleshoot commercial operators (LiftMaster, Manaras, Genie, Lynx, etc.).
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues including springs, cables, rollers, bearings, drums, and door alignment problems.
• Perform full door rebuilds, spring replacements, and motor changeovers.
• Ensure all work adheres to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and safety regulations.

Preventative Maintenance

• Conduct detailed PM inspections on commercial doors and dock equipment.
• Complete maintenance reports, identify failing components, and recommend corrective action.

Customer Interaction

• Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on-site.
• Provide accurate descriptions of issues and explain repair solutions effectively.
• Complete work orders, collect signatures, and provide status updates to dispatch.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety procedures including Lock-Out/Tag-Out, ladder safety, and Working at Heights protocols.
• Use PPE properly and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Report hazards, damage, or unsafe conditions immediately.

General Duties

• Maintain service vehicle inventory and tool condition.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Participate in emergency on-call rotation (if applicable).
• Represent the company professionally at all times.

Requirements (Experienced Candidate)Experience

• Minimum 2–5 years experience as a commercial garage door technician or installer.
• Strong knowledge of commercial doors, operators, and dock systems.
• Proven ability to complete spring changes, cable work, operator troubleshooting, and full installations.

Technical Skills

• Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and structural issues.
• Experience with sectional doors, rolling steel, fire-rated doors, and high-lift/vertical-lift systems.
• Skilled with power tools, hand tools, and measuring equipment.
• Familiarity with basic low-voltage wiring for operator accessories.
• Ability to read manuals, specs, and job drawings.

Certifications (Required or Must Obtain Shortly After Hire)

• Working at Heights (Ontario)
• WHMIS
• Valid G-Class driver's licence with clean abstract
• Lift/boom certification (asset)
• First Aid/CPR (asset)

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift 75–100 lbs
• Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and overhead environments
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
