What this role is all about:
The Vice President, Enterprise Risk is a strategic leader responsible for transforming risk management into a driver of innovation and growth. This role will design and embed a forward-looking Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework that leverages technology, data, and insights to anticipate emerging risks and opportunities. By fostering a culture of risk awareness, collaboration, and accountability, the VP empowers teams to make informed decisions and confidently pursue the Credit Union's strategic goals - positioning governance, resilience, and agility as competitive advantages.
This role is open to hybrid working arrangements within British Columbia. While we welcome all applications, we anticipate filling this role with a candidate located in British Columbia.
What you'll do:
Strategic Leadership
- Provides strategic and transformational leadership and direction to the Enterprise Risk team to drive performance and accountability in alignment with the Credit Union's mission and long-term goals.
- Builds and leads a high-performing team; sets clear expectations, oversees performance, and fosters professional development and succession planning.
- Develops enterprise-wide risk-related strategy, board reporting, and executive-level risk insights.
- Champion a perspective of risk as a strategic enabler—helping the Credit Union seize growth opportunities, strengthen member trust, and differentiate itself in a competitive market.
- Champions a culture of risk awareness, strategic foresight, and innovation throughout the organization.
Enterprise Risk Oversight & Policy Governance
- Lead the design and continuous evolution of the ERM framework, embedding innovation, agility, and digital capabilities to anticipate and respond to emerging risks and opportunities.
- Develops and oversees the implementation of risk management policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring they are responsive to evolving regulatory and business needs.
- Ensures risk frameworks are deeply embedded in strategic planning, including support for mergers, acquisitions, and digital innovation initiatives.
- Chairs the Management Risk Committee to drive engagement, alignment, and cross-functional ownership of key risk themes.
- Aligns risk management efforts with the organization's risk appetite and governance framework.
- Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policy obligations while enhancing organizational transparency and accountability.
- Maintain and further build quality assurance practices that foster learning and quality of delivery across the organization
Operational Risk & Resilience
- Oversees operational risk management, insurance coverage, and business continuity strategies to ensure enterprise resilience.
- Implement advanced analytics, automation, and digital tools to enhance risk insight, decision-making, and reporting, ensuring risk management becomes smarter, faster, and future-ready.
- Proactively monitors emerging risks, regulatory changes, and shifts in the internal/external environment to advise on mitigation strategies.
- Leads the development and testing of crisis management protocols, recovery plans, and loss control initiatives.
- Advances the automation and digitization of risk systems to support real-time analytics and streamlined reporting.
Enterprise Collaboration
- Partner with Executive and senior leadership teams, peer and business leaders to ensure risk considerations are integrated into strategy, innovation initiatives, and digital opportunities.
- Provides strategic guidance, training, and support to internal teams to embed risk thinking across functions.
- Builds trusted relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, legal counsel, and credit union partners.
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk, and Regulatory Compliance
- A university degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Finance, Risk Management) is an asset
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and lead effective teams
- Strong strategic thinking and decision-making capabilities
- Excellent relationship-building skills across internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Detail-oriented with a solutions-focused mindset
What you'll gain:
- The salary range for this position is $185,000 - $205,000, plus variable bonus
