The Company

RyKen Systems is a system integrator and technical support company for the sawmill industry throughout the United States and Canada. We have a large, established sawmill customer base throughout North America.

Many of our systems have been running for 25 years and so we know our systems very well. Most sawmills have a 20-year cycle before they need a major upgrade. This means the software is expected to run a very long time, and it will need support and changes over this period.

What RyKen Does:

· Customer technical support

· Total upgrades of entire control systems in sawmills

· Small software changes to existing systems

· Building components for sawmills such as board measurement devices, encoder boxes and operator consoles

· Maintenance for the many desktop and industrial computers at over 50 sites

· Repair of the scanner heads in our 45 optimizers across Canada and the United States

The Position

Our ideal candidate will have both PLC programming (PLC 5 and ControlLogix) and software development experience. An interest in industrial automation and control is optimal. We will provide training in PLC programming if the candidate lacks this skill set.

The software skill set includes:

· C++ and C# in a Visual Studio 2019 / 2022 environment

· User Interface development (c#, WinForms, Wisej, MFC, Visual Basic)

· Good debugging skills for legacy C++

· Ability to leverage AI for documentation and enhancement of existing code and new projects

· SQL query writing for reports that MySQL and MS SQL as the back ends

The 'Nice to have' PLC skill set includes:

· RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000 trouble shooting and programming (Ladder Logic)

· Knowledge of ControlLogix 1756 / 1794 modules, upgrading firmware on modules

· Ability to layout PLC modules required for a sawmill PLC controls upgrade

Other Skills

· Basic 120 / 24-volt electrical experience in an industrial environment

· PC trouble shooting skills

· Skills in Windows Operating systems, networks, virtual machines

This position is a full-time office job. In the office, you will be working alongside RyKen employees to learn about our systems, software and customers. Providing technical support over the phone for trouble shooting and remote upgrades of hardware and software will become an important part of your day. This experience will prepare you for site work when we upgrade a large sorter or optimizer system.

A majority of your time (80% or more) will be spent in the office at RyKen Systems in Burnaby. There may also be 2-3 trips per year to customer sites. These trips can be an intense 2-to-3-week duration as we will be working in an industrial environment. We do pay overtime and cover all expenses door to door during these site visits. Experience or willingness to do wiring and PLC program testing in a sawmill industrial environment is required. You will be working with other RyKen employees while on site.

The right person for the job will be someone who after learning about our systems and customers will be able to advance and improve our software, hardware and customer service. We are looking for someone who will be able to take 'ownership' of their work so you can grow with RyKen.
