OVERVIEW
The Strategic Analysis & Planning Manager is responsible for financial planning, operating & capital modeling, budgeting coordination, and strategic financial analysis in support of diocesan priorities. This role ensures financial data and insights are available to inform decisions of the Bishop and diocesan leadership. The Strategic Analysis & Planning Manager collaborates with the Bishop on select strategic initiatives, while reporting operationally to the Financial Administrator. The Strategic Analysis & Planning Manager bridges finance, stewardship, and strategy, ensuring good governance and Canon Law alignment in all initiatives. This is a senior, individual contributor role with broad cross-functional collaboration. The role does not carry policy-setting or treasury authority, which remain with the Financial Administrator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Advise the Bishop and diocesan leadership on strategic stewardship initiatives through business cases, financial modeling, and risk assessment.
· Develop and maintain long-term financial models and forecasts that support strategic discernment and decision-making.
· Provide financial analysis and recommendations on diocesan projects (e.g., property divestments, operating & capital projects, restructuring), including priority projects identified by the Bishop and diocesan leadership.
- Prepare reports and presentations for the Bishop, Financial Administrator, and other senior leaders.
- Monitor and report on strategic project financial performance, identifying key risks and opportunities.
- Liaise with diocesan departments and parishes as needed to gather validated financial data for analysis, working in coordination with Senior Accountants.
- Contribute to financial components of grant applications, fundraising cases, and pastoral planning initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, financial data consolidation, and increased efficiency.
- Lead financial oversight and business coordination for IT transformation projects, including system upgrades to accounting, donor management, or payroll platforms.
- Develop business cases, evaluate ROI, coordinate vendor selection, and ensure successful implementation aligned with diocesan strategic priorities and Canon Law.
- Ensure financial dimensions of all strategic initiatives are consistent with diocesan stewardship principles, Canon Law, and mission priorities.
- Provide leadership for the financial dimensions of strategic projects and initiatives.
- Identify and implement process and control enhancements to strengthen financial stewardship.
- Support change management and capacity building in financial systems and practices across the Diocese.
- Coordinate and facilitate the diocesan annual budget process by consolidating departmental and parish submissions and preparing supporting analysis for Financial Administrator approval.
- Other duties as assigned by the Financial Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA designation required
- 7+ years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, or corporate finance
- Proven ability to work with senior leaders on strategic decisions
- Experience in capital and cash flow modeling
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in presenting financial data to non-financial audiences
- Familiarity with Church operations and Canon Law is an asset
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial reporting tools preferred
