The Opportunity:

The Ministry is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, well organized, self-starter with exceptional communication, leadership and management skills to join the Deputy Minister's Office. As the Executive Advisor to the Deputy Minister, you will review sensitive internal and public documents for consistency and manage and coordinate various projects on behalf of the Deputy Minister's Office, ensuring confidentiality.

As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with Assistant Deputy Ministers and Executive Directors and represent the Deputy Minister's office on inter-branch projects in the Ministry, as well as inter-ministry projects. You will also be a key liaison with the Minister's Office to ensure ministerial inquiries are handled in a quick and efficient manner.

As the Executive Advisor to the Deputy Minister, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing various policy issues, coordinating briefing material to respond to emergent issues, and providing advice to the Deputy Minister on program, policy and administrative issues;
• Analyzing and comprehending ministry goals and strategies and understanding how they relate to the government's strategic direction;
• Developing and maintaining a respective, collegial relationship within the Ministry and the Office of the Minister of Environment in order to address/resolve issues and situations which require confidential, tactful, management and communication;
• Being a leader in demonstrating the GOS Commitment of Excellence;
• Sharing useful and relevant information with others and explaining rationale behind decision;
• Using a collaborative approach and superior negotiation skills to persuade and convince others in order to achieve goals or resolve problems while demonstrating openness and receptivity to new information;
• Thinking "outside the box" and challenging the status quo in order to identify new innovative solutions to improve ministry processes; and
• Providing operational consistency, ensuring timely handling of issue identification, management, resolution and risk management in an effective manner to proactively address issues.

• The ability to engage in innovative practices by thinking laterally to identify new solutions - will consider the new and unconventional;
• The ability to be self-directed in anticipating, responding and being proactive in adding value to the Deputy Minister's Office and the Ministry;
• Leadership qualities to coach and motivate team members and others within the Ministry; and
• Strong organization skills and attention to detail to plan and manage work in an effective manner, track achievements, take corrective action and meet deadlines.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be attained through the completion of a degree in business, public policy, public administration, or a related discipline and experience in public policy analysis. Knowledge of government decision-making processes would be considered an asset.
