The Opportunity

The Ministry is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, well-organized, self-starter with exceptional leadership and management skills to join the Deputy Minister's Office. As
Manager, Executive Operations
you will review sensitive internal and public documents for consistency and manage and coordinate various projects on behalf of the Deputy Minister's Office, ensuring confidentiality.

As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work closely with Executive Directors and represent the Deputy Minister's Office on inter-branch projects, as well as inter-ministry projects. You will also be a key liaison with the Minister's Office to ensure ministerial inquiries are handled in an efficient manner.

As
Manager, Executive Operations
, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide strategic and operational support to the Deputy Minister and executive team, offering advice on program, policy, and administrative matters, and coordinating briefing materials to respond to emergent issues;
  • Support the Deputy Minister in resource policy and industry/sector relations. Act as the primary contact with major stakeholders and Federal/Provincial/Territorial colleagues, independently managing inquiries and coordinating appropriate responses;
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Deputy Minister's Office and the Minister's Office, coordinating responses to stakeholder and citizen inquiries, cabinet items, and legislative issues. Ensure timely delivery of materials and support documents required to advance the Ministry's business plan;
  • Serve as a key support to the Ministry's Executive Committee. Manage the committee's administration and ensure timely follow-through on executive decisions;
  • Ensure operational consistency in identifying, managing, and resolving issues across the Ministry. Provide risk management advice and work collaboratively with branch heads and the Minister's Office to address cross-ministry concerns;
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Minister's Office. Participate in planning and monitoring proceedings of the legislature, and remain available to address emerging issues, ensuring timely coordination of responses and materials;
  • Review and approve briefing notes, news releases, and correspondence to ensure alignment with Ministry and government policy. Seek input and support from subject matter experts, as needed, to ensure accuracy and relevance when drafting routine and complex documents for the Deputy Minister and Minister; and
  • Manage timelines and coordination for the Ministry's strategic plan, business plan and annual reports, ensuring deadlines are met and processes are followed (content development is handled outside of this position).

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be attained through:

  • Completion of a degree in business, public policy, public administration, or a related discipline; and
  • Experience in public policy analysis.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of government decision-making and processes would be considered an asset.
