About NEXTAI

NEXT AI is an accelerator and founder development program dedicated to ventures powered by artificial intelligence, delivered in Montreal and Toronto. We focus on identifying talented early-stage teams with ambitious solutions, leveraging Canada's leadership in AI to provide them with the capital, mentorship, education, and network needed to disrupt industries. The program is a collaboration between NEXT Canada and HEC Montréal and is operated through Executive Education at HEC Montréal.

The opportunity

SiRs will play a critical role in supporting the development of the 50 startups in the program, offering expertise, guidance, and coaching from March to September 2026. We foster a collaborative and flexible coaching environment. Ad hoc hours will be available for office hours and coaching as part of the NEXT AI Bootcamp, as well as for support during our recruitment process, from October 2026 to February 2027.

Your Responsibilities

As a scientist-in-residence, you will provide an average of 8 hours per week of support to the NEXT AI Montréal ventures during the program, from March 12 to September 30, 2026. Your support will cover a wide range of activities, including:

  • Advising on software and hardware technologies :
    Guiding the selection and integration of AI tools, cloud services, and software frameworks.
  • Providing R&D and software development services :
    Helping ventures create and improve AI-driven solutions.
  • Supporting technical hiring :
    Assisting startups in recruiting the right technical talent.
  • Guiding AI/ML model use :
    Helping ventures optimize the use of AI and machine learning models for their products.

Ideal Candidate

SiRs are expected to be responsive, with a general follow-up time of 24 hours for any inquiry, ensuring efficient and timely support for ventures.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • PhD or Master's degree in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Exceptional candidates with substantial professional experience and significant contributions to AI research or applications will also be considered.
  • Strong expertise in AI (machine learning, deep learning, etc.) with hands-on experience in real-world startup or industry settings.
  • Solid background in technology and product development, with experience supporting startups or high-growth companies.
  • Excellent mentorship and coaching skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset: Ability to work closely with other SiRs and Venture Managers to help ventures succeed.
  • Fluency in English is essential, as most interactions will be conducted in this language.
