Job Title: Customs Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Customs Specialist to join our team for a short-term project. The successful candidate will manage customs clearance and tariffs management functions, ensuring that goods bound for the US are cleared correctly, timely, and cost-effectively. The role requires compliance with CUSMA and the latest US government-imposed Steel, Aluminum, and Copper tariffs.

Responsibilities

  • Stay updated with changes in trade compliance and tariffs affecting the company.
  • Coordinate with multi-functional teams to communicate news and action plans related to trade compliance and tariff changes.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure compliance with trade and tariff-related regulations.
  • Support the logistics team with related activities as needed.
  • Review, analyze, and audit customs entries, tariffs, and brokerage invoices for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead or support the review and audit of customs entries and invoices promptly.
  • Collaborate with customs brokers, Strategic Sourcing Manager, Customs and Traffic Coordinator, Customer Service, and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate billing and payment of customs invoices.
  • Examine and compile outbound entry summaries for amendments in preparation for filing PEA.
  • Prepare, file, follow up, and close post-entry amendments such as duty refunds and correct tariff classifications.
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing Manager and customs broker to file PEAs, seek refunds for US-bound entries, track PEAs filed, and report results.
  • Assist the customer service team with outbound shipments requiring additional documents for customs release.
  • Maintain computerized compliance records in accordance with customs regulations.
  • Keep management informed of the latest US and Canadian government tariffs announcements.
  • Assist with the 2026 CUSMA recertification as needed.
  • Complete additional job duties as required.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of experience with HTS classifications, COO, Country of Melt, Pour, Smelt, valuation, duties, tariffs, customs clearance, filing PEA, and other importing/exporting responsibilities.
  • Customs broker license from US or Canadian government or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Trade Compliance Specialist certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 232, especially Steel, Aluminum, Copper tariffs imposed by the US government.
  • Familiarity with recent US tariffs and daily changes in trade compliance.
  • Experience with MRP software, BOM knowledge, and intermediate/advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any customs or logistics-related post-secondary education.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

Onsite five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a flexible 30-minute lunch break. Parking is available, and the location is accessible by transit. The team reports to the Strategic Sourcing Manager and includes one other buyer. The Richmond team consists of 400 members.
