The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Financial Analyst. Reporting to the Director, Finance/Controller, this position plays a key role in supporting Burlington Hydro's financial operations, including full-cycle invoicing, collections follow-up, payroll reconciliation, and ERP system implementation. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining detailed process documentation to ensure compliance and continuity across finance operations.
This is an on-site position located at 1340 Brant Street, Burlington. Burlington Hydro offers eligible employees the flexibility to work remotely one (1) day per week as part of our Hybrid Work from Home Program.
What You Will Do
- Manage the end-to-end invoicing process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies and client agreements
- Monitor miscellaneous accounts receivable and proactively follow up on outstanding invoices to ensure timely collection
- Develop and maintain invoicing dashboards and reports
- Perform monthly payroll reconciliations, ensuring payroll aligns with general ledger accounts and financial reports
- Collaborate with Payroll to resolve discrepancies, validate payroll entries, and maintain a reconciliation of payroll allocation to capital and operating expenses
- Support ERP implementation, including planning, testing, and deployment of the new system
- Assist in defining system requirements and validating financial data migration
- Participate in user acceptance training (UAT) and provide feedback on issues
- Maintain and update user training materials related to finance modules
- Develop, maintain, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process maps for finance-related activities
- Identify opportunities for process improvement in invoicing, payroll, reporting, and financial controls
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, audit requirements, and relevant financial regulations
- Prepare monthly variance analysis to support decision-making
- Assist in investigating and resolving unusual or abnormal variances
- Provide day-to-day financial support and assist with ad hoc financial requests
- All other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting or financial analysis experience
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
What You'll Need to Be Successful
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Proactive and process-driven, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office applications
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, billing processes, payroll accounting, and internal controls
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and documentation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information
