The Tourism Activator for the Municipality of Port Hope will play a foundational role under the direction of Port Hope Tourism in bolstering the local tourism sector by helping promote and liaise among the region's diverse attractions, supporting the growth of local businesses, and fostering community partnerships. This position focuses on supporting innovative, community-based destination marketing and helping build a sustainable tourism framework for the Municipality.

Compensation and Work Term
$18.54 to $20.11 per hour
May to August

Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or equivalent; plus some post-secondary education in economic development, tourism management, or marketing would be considered an asset. 
  • Experience in Customer Service or Tourism role considered an asset. 
  • Experience living or working in Port Hope or surrounding area considered an asset.  
Responsibilities
  • Promoting Tourism: Deliver downtown and rural-focused marketing campaigns to highlight Port Hope's unique attractions, with specific focus on Ward 2's agri-tourism and outdoor/adventure/sports tourism offerings. Support Port Hope's 2025 Destination Marketing campaign through social media, brochures, posters, and other platforms to support visitor experience, reinforcing local destinations, cultural heritage, and recreational opportunities.  
  • Connecting Visitors and Businesses: Assist visitors in connecting with local businesses and services to meet their needs, enhancing their overall experience. Support local tourism providers by linking them with funding opportunities, training programs, and other resources. 
  • Building Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, tourism stakeholders, and municipal staff to foster collaboration and shared goals. Partner with local organizations to create cohesive marketing strategies that benefit the entire region. 
  • Creating Experiences: Collaborate with businesses and organizations to design unique packages that appeal to tourists. 
  • Sharing Information: Act as a tourism ambassador by sharing insights into Port Hope's local history, cultural assets, and natural heritage. Provide clear, engaging, and accessible information to visitors across various platforms. 
  • Managing Events: Represent Port Hope as a destination at events, both municipal and third party. Utilize technology to streamline event operations and enhance visitor engagement. Distribute products, promotional items, and other materials to attendees at events. 
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze and report on key performance indicators including social media and online engagement metrics, third party financial performance, visitation numbers, qualitative experiential data, etc.

  • Ability to coordinate and execute numerous tasks across multiple technologies, contacts, and projects.

Other
  • A passion for helping others, serving community, and providing exceptional experiences to visitors.   
  • Valid and satisfactory 'G' driver's license and access to own vehicle. 
  • Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check. 
  • Office environment with some field work and with some requirement to work hours outside of normal schedule.  
  • Some travel required 
  • Regular interruptions, competing priorities and time sensitive deadlines.
