Location: Milton, ON
Reports To: Warehouse Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday from 6am to 2:30pm
Job Summary:
The Warehouse Dock Operations Supervisor is a leadership role responsible for the direct management and seamless flow of all inbound and outbound flow of activities on the warehouse dock. This position exercises full authority over dock personnel and operational processes to ensure the on time, accurate, and safe receiving and shipping of product. The supervisor is empowered to make rapid decisions to optimize labour, door management, and pallet flow to achieve an orderly and clean dock at all times. Serving as the central point of command for all dock operations during the shift, this role is critical to work alongside other leaders as it relates to picking, storage and retrieval of product. Key success factors may include achieving KPIs for overall Receiving accuracy as it relates to quantity and correct item, overall Shipping accuracy as it relates to pallet stability, good pallets and proper labelling, dock to stock times ensuring all product is moved within required zones timely and efficiently, and maintaining a safe, clean, organized, efficient and disciplined dock environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Dock Management:
- This role requires a true leader who is on the floor and keeps his/her team active while maintaining an extremely high level of cleanliness
- Act as the "central air traffic control tower" for all outbound loading and receiving flow activities on the dock, including organization, cleanliness, safety and proper flow
- Directly manage and assign tasks to dock employees, including forklift operators, pallet jack operators, and loaders or unloaders as required
- Strategically assign and schedule truck doors for inbound and outbound trailers to maximize trailer turns, on time departures and overall flow on the dock
- Monitor and manage the flow of pallets throughout the dock ensuring efficient transfer to and from staging, storage, and trailers
- Oversee the entire process from trailer arrival to departure, ensuring compliance customer and Fresh Taste needs
- Review, revise and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) as required to ensure all goals are met and ensure staff are trained on SOP's, safety and Fresh Taste high quality standards
- Conduct daily shift meetings to communicate goals, priorities, and safety
- Manage employee performance, provide constructive feedback and participate in performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, quality and continuous improvement
- Ensure the dock area is maintained to high housekeeping standards at all times, always clean, organized, and free of obstructions
- Continually review dock operations to identify bottlenecks and find solutions to improve efficiency, quality and flow
- Collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and other supervisors to align dock activities with overall warehouse goals
- Oversee the building and breakdown of pallets to ensure stable and safe loads for transportation as well as meeting customer requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3+ years of experience in a warehouse or distribution center environment, with at least 2+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity
- Proven experience managing a busy dock, including direct responsibility for personnel, doors, and workflow
- In depth knowledge of fresh food or produce Shipping and Receiving procedures
- Strong leadership, problem solving, and superior communication skills both orally and written
- Ability to work in a cold, fast paced and physically demanding environment
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stack pallets as required, a true hands on leader
- Knowledge of food safety standards (e.g., GMPs, HACCP, sanitation protocols)
