Travelling Foreman – Commercial Division
The Travelling Foreman – Commercial Division provides hands-on leadership in the field, overseeing the safe and efficient execution of commercial marine construction projects. Acting as the primary on-site leader and liaison, this role coordinates daily operations, crew activities, and equipment readiness while ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety regulations, and company standards. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Commercial, this position requires strong situational awareness, independent decision-making, and a commitment to high-quality results across diverse work environments.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership and Crew Oversight
· Leads the on-site crew, setting clear expectations for safety, productivity, and professionalism.
· Organizes daily work plans, assigns tasks, and provides direction to labourers, deckhands, and subcontractors.
· Ensures consistent adherence to construction drawings, project schedules, and quality expectations.
· Conducts site inspections, monitors progress and adjusts workflows to maintain schedule alignment.
· Builds positive working relationships with project stakeholders, inspectors, clients, and internal supervisors.
· Plans for upcoming tasks by coordinating material, equipment, and tool needs in advance.
· Manages daily operations with minimal supervision, ensuring steady progress and strong team performance.
· Promotes a supportive, respectful, and results-focused work environment.
· Operates a tugboat to transport crews, equipment, and construction materials between the yard, job sites, and island-based locations. Ensures all marine transportation is conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with legal requirements.
Safety and Compliance
· Champions a proactive safety culture on-site and ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, company policies, and COR protocols.
· Leads daily safety meetings and ensures proper use of PPE and safety equipment.
· Conducts safety inspections and completes required reporting through Corfix or similar systems.
· Ensures job site safety compliance for workers, subcontractors, and the general public.
· Restricts mobile phone usage during work hours to job-related matters only.
Project Execution and Work Quality
· Reviews project plans and specifications, ensuring the work meets both engineering requirements and company quality standards.
· Operates heavy machinery—including excavators—safely and effectively on barges
· Organizes daily start-ups, assembles necessary tools and materials, and confirms site readiness.
· Conducts regular quality checks and proactively addresses deficiencies.
· Accurately completes work orders, time and materials billing, and daily production logs.
· Maintains accurate tracking of crew time, materials, and job costing using the ERP system.
· Communicates with the Residential Coordinator and other stakeholders by identifying potential delays or resource needs early.
· Oversees and ensures care of company equipment, vehicles, and tools assigned to the project.
· Demonstrates leadership by mentoring junior crew members and modeling proper site conduct and procedures.
Additional Duties
· Coordinates substitute supervision and ensures smooth transitions when away from site.
· Provides input on resource planning and subcontractor scheduling.
· Submits credit card receipts with job-related descriptions weekly.
· Carries out work in an environmentally responsible manner.
· Demonstrates growing capacity to lead larger crews and more complex projects.
· Develops and maintains maintenance routines for barges, tugs, excavators, and other assigned equipment.
· Stays connected via mobile phone and data for time tracking, communications, and reporting.
Qualifications
· Minimum 5+ years of construction experience (marine construction preferred), with 3+ years in a supervisory/Lead Hand role.
· Strong understanding of residential marine construction practices, job site coordination, and quality standards.
· Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
· Proficient in time and resource tracking, preferably using ERP or project management systems.
· Comfortable with remote site leadership and independent decision-making.
· Must have and maintain a valid Class G driver's license with a clean record.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Willing and able to travel out of town for overnight work as operational needs require
· Class "A" Restricted Driver's License, Master Limited (Captain's License) for marine work required, or willingness and commitment to obtain.
· Marine-based experience required; must hold or be willing to obtain a Master Limited or Captain's License to operate company tugboats.
· Proven ability to safely operate excavators and other heavy machinery on barges and over water.
