Public Relations Communications Specialist

We are seeking a Communications Strategist to join our client's team. In this role, you will be instrumental in planning and developing compelling content to build and support the brand, ensuring alignment with corporate values and mission. This position requires you to work cross-functionally with the marketing and other business divisions.
A key focus of this role is the strategic and tactical execution of the brand through social and digital channels, with a strong emphasis on Public Relations (PR), likely comprising about 60% Public Relations and 40% Communications work. You will be taking internal information and transforming it into external media messaging and overseeing the work of a PR agency.
This role is hybrid, requiring the talent to work onsite at our client's office in Oakville 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality content for digital channels and social media, as well as media articles, bylines, and comments, adhering to SEO best practices.
- Ensure that all content aligns with the brand's messaging and values.
- Oversee the social media presence, including content creation, posting schedules, and community engagement to enhance online brand visibility.
- Cultivate relationships with relevant media outlets and work on securing media coverage to promote the brand and its products/solutions.
- Implement end-to-end social media campaigns and communications initiatives, ensuring key message delivery, audience engagement, and positive brand affinity.
- Engage in daily social listening to monitor industry news, trends, competitor activity, and brand mentions.
- Contribute creative ideas on how to leverage social media and digital marketing to help achieve business and communications objectives.
- Consistently review social analytics to drive insights and improve ongoing campaign performance.
- Monitor and manage all social media accounts, responding to customer comments, questions, and feedback in a timely, professional manner across social platforms.
- Lead the development of media messaging, effectively translating internal information for external audiences.
- Collaborate with and oversee the work of a PR agency.
- Handle Project Management (PM) tasks, collaborating with other team members.
- Demonstrate strong storytelling skills and expertise in pitching to media outlets and understanding key PR activities.
- Manage executive communication on platforms like LinkedIn (specifically through CEO and President channels).
Requirements
- 5+ years of marketing and communications experience.
- 2+ years in a senior role.
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional communication skills, including writing, proof-reading, editing, and verbal communication.
- Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to develop engaging content.
- Direct experience working with marketing tools such as Sprout Social and Meltwater.
- Experience with HubSpot is a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Familiarity with a Project Management tool like Asana is preferred.
- Proven expertise in Public Relations, including writing press releases, understanding PR activities, and pitching to media.
