The purpose of this position is to oversee the coordination and distribution of government information across various platforms, ensuring effective and timely communication with diverse audiences. By leveraging strong writing, editing, and organizational skills, the officer plays a critical role in distributing press releases, alerts, advisories, and event information while supporting media relations and event logistics. This position also involves maintaining and optimizing web content and providing administrative support to the strategic communications team.
**Duties will include but are not limited to**:
- Managing press releases, alerts, advisories, and events while supporting communications activities and content creation. Responsibilities include reviewing and editing content for grammar, clarity, and tone, and using web editing tools to create web pages.
- Support the implementation of internal communications strategies to ensure staff are well-informed, engaged, and motivated. This role works closely with other departments and colleagues to facilitate the distribution of information to internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities. Manage the effective delivery of internal communication channels, including the intranet, to foster collaboration and support organizational objectives. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintaining and coordinating the government’s listings in phone books and other directories to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Prepare, analyze, and distribute comprehensive reports on CAPE's activities, highlighting key priorities, cross-departmental initiatives, and performance metrics. These reports support transparency, inform decision-making, and contribute to strategic planning efforts across the organization. Additionally, monitor the general government inbox, disseminate information to the appropriate departments or staff, and, when applicable, provide direct responses where the information does not require departmental involvement.
- Provide comprehensive support for a variety of activities within the Strategic Communications team, including event coordination, content production, and media management. This role requires flexibility to assist with tasks beyond regular business hours, ensuring effective communication and the seamless execution of projects and initiatives.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
- A university degree in a relevant field like Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism is required.
- Strong attention to detail in reviewing and editing content for grammar, punctuation, clarity, and tone, ensuring all materials meet the highest standards before distribution.
- Experience in media relations, public relations, or communications, with a strong understanding of media channels, government communications, and public engagement strategies.
- Experience managing content distribution across multiple platforms, including web, print, and social media.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and editing skills.
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
- Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record. The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.;
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
**Other Qualifications**:
- Experience in crisis communication or working in high-pressure environments is an asset.
- Collaboration and team working skills, with a history of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
