**Reports to**: SENIOR DIRECTOR PEOPLE + CULTURE
**Job Location**: HYRBID (2-3 Days In-Office Required), VANCOUVER, B.C ()

JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Senior Director, People + Culture, the People + Culture generalist supports Take a Hike’s Day to day HR operations in a variety of functional areas including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, occupational health and safety, training, performance management and employee relations. As a key point of contact for communication, the People + Culture Generalist manages sensitive matters with tact, confidentiality and good judgment and assists in the development and maintenance of current and future HR systems and processes, ensuring equitable and compliant HR Practices across Take a Hike.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
Take a Hike empowers youth who experience vulnerability to change the trajectory of their lives with a full-time mental health and emotional well-being program embedded in an alternate education classroom. Take a Hike engages youth with intentional, continuous clinical counselling, experiential land-based learning, and community. Our public school district partners provide high quality education, and together, we empower youth with the skills and resilience they need to graduate high school, build healthy relationships, and achieve success - however they define it.

RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES

HR Generalist Duties
- Act as primary point of contact for staff for people and culture related activities
- Act as a resource to the Management Team in areas of staffing, training, performance management, occupational health and safety, employee wellness and employee relations
- Support non complex employee relations issues
- Administer and process benefits enrolment; advise employees on benefits issues; maintain accurate employee information; answer employee or manager questions about eligibility or claims
- Partner with benefit provider to resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate data in the HRIS, ensuring changes are recorded accurately and on time, complete regular audits to ensure data integrity
- Provide input into employee continued learning and professional development curriculum
- Lead the implementation of Take a Hike’s performance processes, including annual appraisals. Provide support and advise to management team on performance appraisals, coaching, constructive feedback, recognition and development practices.
- Manage the Occupational Health and Safety for the organization; maintain a functioning health and safety program and committee; oversee OH+S claims and record-keeping processes
- Modify policies/procedures as requested by the Senior Director, People + Culture
- Ensure virtual and hard-copy employee records are current, accurate, complete and secure; control access to records; ensure proper use and disclosure of employee information per privacy legislation
- Complete independent projects within the scope of the role to design and implement enhanced HR processes and services.

Recruitment
- Partner with leaders to identify staffing needs and execute full-cycle recruitment
- Update and create job descriptions and job postings
- Post and advertise new opportunities ensuring messaging is on-brand and in line with legislated requirements
- Schedule and participate in interviews to provide support to Management
- Develop behavioural interviews question bank and provide recommended questions for interviews
- Create and update interview questions
- Complete pre-employment checks
- Prepare and deliver offer letters
- Prepare and deliver new hire material and ensure effective on-boarding
- Track and provide recruitment metrics and trends
- Provide feedback on ways to improve efficiency and improve recruitment processes

Other Duties as Required

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Post Secondary Diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field
- 1- 3 years’ of human resources generalist experience, including full cycle recruitment preferably in the not-for-profit sector
- CPHR designation is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of HR trends, relevant legislation (Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, WorkSafeBC, etc.) and compliance requirements
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- High level of integrity and dependability and ability to work with confidential information, data, and materials
- Excellent organization and time management skills, as well as the ability to successfully manage changing priorities
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal reference check with vulnerable populations

TERMS AND COMPENSATION
This is a full-time permanent position based in our Vancouver, BC office with a minimum of two days a week in the office required and an expectation to be available for some evenings and wee
