Organizational Unit - University of Victoria -> Student Affairs -> Residence Services - Location - University of Victoria - Victoria, BC V8W 2Y2 CA (Primary) - Posting Close Date - 26 February 2025 - Please note that positions will close at 4 p.m. on the closing date. - FTE - 1.0 - Salary Grade - $69,052.00 - $89,791.00 - Additional Posting Information - Salary posted will be pro-rated based on FTE and achieved as per the collective agreement, if applicable. - Classification - SG9 - Start Date - 3/24/2025 - End Date - 10/16/2026 - Employee Group: - PEA - Term - # of Hires Needed - 1 - Category - Education, Training, and Library - About this Opportunity Due to the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required. **_*This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** **The salary range for this position is**: **- Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. **- Performance range: $89,791** salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. - Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, the Training and Assessment Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of required training for approximately 90 para-professional staff in alignment with the strategic goals and values developed by Residence Services management. The Specialist is responsible for the review, analysis and creation of the para-professional staff training program, ensuring the inclusion of differentiated streams of training for new and returning staff, the incorporation of relevant learning outcomes, formal assessment and a curriculum to guide continuous development for the Residence Life and Education team. The Specialist is responsible for both the educational outcomes and logistics of para-professional training. The Specialist also trains other professional staff in curriculum development, creating learning outcomes, assessing learning outcomes, presentation and training and teaching techniques (train-the-trainer). Under the direction of the Manager,, the Specialist will oversee annual hiring practices for the para-professional staff team, and implement annual improvements to this complex process, linking hiring criteria and process to orienting, training and mentoring new staff. This includes logístical oversight and process development, as well as gathering input on and addressing gaps identified by staff and management in order to ensure that new employees are capable of meeting the demands and priorities in their roles. The Specialist will develop recruitment, interviewing, testing and hiring tools to ensure an efficient and effective process that supports the culture and expectations of the organization. The Specialist is expected to assist other members of the Residence Life and Education team in the development of learning outcomes for, and the evaluation and assessment of key Residence Life and Education programs in order to promote ongoing change and improvement, using frameworks and guidelines established by the Council for Advancement of Standards. The Specialist will also act in the role of consultant for other Residence Services professional standards in the processes and theory of learning outcomes and assessment. Due to the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required. - Job Requirements This position requires a Master’s degree in Education, Leadership or a related field plus four (4) years of experience in a related role in higher education or a similar environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. **Knowledge, skills, and abilities** - Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment - Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel - Thorough understanding and experience with assessment principles and practices including evaluative tools and data analysis - Proven ability to develop and implement effective procedures and policies in consultation with department leadership - Experience handling confidential information - Previous experience monitoring budgets effectively - Demonstrated experience planning events, and developing and delivering customized training programs/sessions/workshops with the ability to assess and measure training needs, quality, and effectiveness - Proven track record achieving project goals on time and produce deliverables of a high quality - Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, effectively handle changing priorities - Ability to translate strategic management objectives into training tools that support the needs of staff and the organization - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment -
