Applications are invited for the position of Human Resources Consultant in the Human Resources department, located at the Welland Campus.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Human Resources Consultant provides a full range of human resources consulting, advising and operational services in all areas of human resources practices and programs. Working within an assigned portfolio of clients, the HR Consultant works with leaders, administrative, academic, and support staff, developing a full understanding of the operational facets of the departments and divisions they support, including the clients’ strategic goals and the human resources aspects related to those goals to deliver the most effective solutions possible. The position contributes to the creation, implementation, and administration of sound human resources strategies and best practices in all areas of human resources management.
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Provides strategic and operational human resources guidance, advice and support and acts as a trusted advisor to leaders on talent and performance management, workforce planning, job design, employee/labour relations, legislative compliance, disability case management, organizational development, and compensation administration.
- Develops, fosters, and maintains client relationships, engaging regularly with leaders within an assigned client portfolio, proactively identifying or responding to complex and routine HR matters as well as sensitive and confidential issues
- Consults with clients on strategic and tactical staffing and workforce options and solutions relative to talent identification, replacement plans, scheduling and shift options, overtime, etc.
- Provides expert advice on talent acquisition and workforce planning strategies to attract, select, and retain qualified talent
- Provides advice, coaching and counsel to leaders on performance issues related to quality of work, attendance, conduct, and conflict, including development and implementation of performance improvement plans
- Coaches and guides leaders and liaises with union representatives as the college representative to investigate and informally resolve employee and labour relations issues, including fact-finding meetings, internal investigations, and discipline meetings
- Consults with the Disability Management Specialist to strategize and advise on short term disability cases, workplace accommodation, and return to work programs
- Participates in the development of strategies to assist the College delivery of human resources management policies and program
**Qualifications**:
- Degree/diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or similar field of study
- CHRP/CHRL designation
- Minimum seven (7) years progressive human resources experience including areas of strategic HR planning, disability case management, employee/labour relations, talent acquisition, and performance management
- Expert knowledge and understanding of provincial legislation related to employment and labour law and collective agreements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to draft correspondence, reports, and recommendations
- Team-oriented leader with excellent consultative and diplomacy skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage large and high-volume workload, juggling diverse priorities and challenging deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to confidently handle contentious matters with sensitivity and confidentiality
- Flexible, agile, and self-directed individual with the ability to adapt and learn quickly in an ever-changing environment, keeping current with changing legislation, policies, and best practices
**Salary and Total Rewards**:
Pay band range: $96,466 - $120,582
Target hiring salary: $96,466 - $108,524
