Applications are invited for two (2) positions as Accessibility Consultant, Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services (HWAS) located at the Welland campus with some intercampus travel required. The starting hourly rate is $41.12/hour (Pay Band J $41.12/hour to $47.67/hour) for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.

Reporting to the Director, Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services, the Accessibility Consultant offers accessibility services for students with disabilities. HWAS encompasses health services, counselling, and accessibility services, and operates as an integrated model of care. The Accessibility Consultant participates as a collaborative team member in providing a supportive environment to help students with disabilities achieve success while at college.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Determining student eligibility for academic accommodations and support services both within Accessibility Services and across other Niagara College departments in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.
- Conducting intake interviews with students with disabilities.
- Informing students of required documentation and assisting with the acquisition when needed.
- Proposing transitional support and guidance for students at various stages from program acceptance through to graduation.
- Evaluating medical documentation and approving academic accommodations.
- Assessing the impact on the academic program and determining appropriate level of support and services for the student.
- Identifying funding options, and, if appropriate, ensuring that services meet guidelines.
- Referring and/or setting up with other services as appropriate.
- Record-keeping and managing data.
- Exploring options and opportunities for students to address problematic situations regarding accommodations while promoting self-advocacy, independence and self-determination.
- Liaising with faculty and staff.

**Qualifications**:

- A (4) Four-year degree in Disability Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Humanities, Education or another related discipline, which includes coursework in disability studies
- A minimum of (5) five years experience working in a setting providing intake and direct services to individuals with disabilities, including applied knowledge of interpreting and carrying out recommendations using a variety of assessments.
- Must possess knowledge, skills and experiences with mental health, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, diversity and social inclusion.
- Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines, problem-solve under pressure within a public environment and maintain a professional and invitational attitude at all times.
- Experience working in an integrated team is an asset.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Computer proficiency, preferably in an MS Office environment. Familiarity with PeopleSoft will be considered an asset.
- Masters degree would be considered an asset.
- Training or experience in supporting individuals in distress and/or suicide intervention will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario Human Rights will be considered an asset.
