**Indigenous Relations Coordinator - Operations**

Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds 10

Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid

Annual salary: $ 87,700.00 - 110,900.00

**What you'll do**
- Operating under the direction of an overall Project Manager, participates as an active member of the project team by
leading BC Hydro’s consultation activities, attending program team meetings and updates, providing advice on policies,
standards and practices specific to the First Nations components of operation programs.
- Delivers consultation with First Nations in accordance with BC Hydro’s operational programs.
- Initiates contact with First Nations in accordance with established communication and relationship protocols (if any).
- Elicits feedback from First Nations on the potential for and nature of operation program impacts, and helps identify

measures to avoid, mitigate or accommodate impacts in collaboration with First Nations and program teams.
- Engages with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to determine means of solving problems and

addressing conflicts.
- Support First Nation participation in archaeological, heritage, environmental and other field work activities.
- Fulfill Indigenous Relations’ (IR) policies, principles, procedures and objectives in regards to operations program work.

This includes assisting in relationship building with First Nations and facilitating their participation in the work, where
applicable.
- Document all consultation activities and communications in the IR consultation tracking system (ARIES).
- May negotiate terms and conditions of low to moderate complexity agreements (such as Capacity Funding Agreements)

and manage their implementation.
- Supports identification of First Nations procurement and employment opportunities.
- Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives including the introduction of new technologies and tools.

Identifies opportunities to enhance existing business processes and improve efficiency. Assesses effectiveness and makes
related recommendations.
- Work collaboratively and build relationships across key BC Hydro business groups, including Operational delivery teams,

IR regional teams, and Environmental Field Operations. In addition, liaise with Program/Work Program Managers, design/
engineering and Field teams on IR topics and issues.
- Respond to requests from internal BC Hydro business groups for guidance and support when performing a variety of

maintenance and sustaining activities affecting First Nations.
- Build ongoing relationship with a wide range of internal (and sometimes external contacts) to promote their understanding

of BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations process, vision and values.

**What you bring**
- University Undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Economic Development, Law, Indigenous Studies,

Communications, Anthropology or related discipline or equivalent. A combination of education and experience may be
- considered.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in a business environment (public or private sector preferably resource-based

organization) including experience in managing projects with some exposure to cross cultural setting.
- Basic level of understanding of consultation requirements and BC Hydro’s approach to engagement with First Nations.
- Experience working with First Nations is considered an asset.
- Understands principles of working effectively with First Nations.
- Ability to recognize an emerging issue and find solutions quickly before it gets escalated.
- Competent computer skills with strong knowledge in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel and SharePoint).
- Well-developed communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively amongst different teams.
- Organized and task driven. Ability to progress several different activities with competing timelines and pressures at one

time, in a high work volume environment.
