**Starting Salary: $20.00/hour**
**The Opportunity**:
As part of the Communications, Community Relations and Indigenous Relations team of the Burnaby Refinery, this role provides strategic communications services and conducts stakeholder engagement activities to help the Refinery in its ongoing dialogue with employees, local community, stakeholders, and local Indigenous Nations. This includes developing content for internal and external audiences and supporting special projects and events.
We are seeking a passionate communicator with strong writing, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are eager to contribute to the team by writing engaging stories, assisting with events and campaigns, and supporting social media content. Having education or interest in Indigenous Relations will also serve you well as this role will support internal cultural awareness campaigns and external engagement strategies.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide scheduling, administrative, and logístical support to the Communications and Indigenous Relations team.
- Organize and analyze data, maintain systems, and produce routine reports, presentations, and briefing documents.
- Research and write content for internal and external audiences, including articles, newsletters, key messages, and briefing notes.
- Create and distribute engaging content for stakeholders/Rightsholders, including social media posts, intranet and web copy, photography, and videos to highlight milestones and achievements.
- Support internal and external engagement initiatives, including consultations with Indigenous communities, by preparing materials, taking notes, and tracking follow-ups.
- Assist with planning, logistics, and material preparation for events, workshops, and social investment campaigns, including town hall meetings and Indigenous relations events.
**Education**:
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program (or completed at least one year of post-secondary education) in Communications, Indigenous Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field. Other relevant majors will also be considered.
**Requirements**:
- Available for a 8-month term beginning in May 2025.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong research and analyze skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships, work collaboratively across teams, and support team efforts and timelines.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); graphic design and video editing skills are considered an asset.
- Understanding of the complex history of Indigenous-colonial relationships, with awareness, appreciation, and respect for unique Indigenous ways of knowing and being, is an asset.
- Previous administrative experience, including event planning, is an asset.
- Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction setting is an asset.
